soo anyone have an opinion on how formal we should dress for the interviews where they have a lot of people and hour time slots? the email didn’t really say anything about it.

My interview was…kind of bland, but hopefully positive.

Have any of you been asked to email a Pre-Interview Resume Form? Where in the world would I find that?

Yeah. The pre-interview form is attached in the email.

I have double-checked on several different browsers and have definitely not received any pre-interview form attached to any email I’ve ever received in relation to Harvard. Did my interviewer forget? Should I respond back and ask for it? Or does someone have a link for me to download the form?

If your interviewer mentioned you giving him the form, I would definitely reply back asking for the form.

Not every region uses the form.

Where we supposed to have had our interviews arranged by now? Because a submitted my application about a week before the deadline and have heard nothing.

It’s not as systematic as that. The admissions office processes the applications by region, and then names are sent to regional coordinators who contact their list of alum volunteers. The arranging of interviews is then the prerogative of individual alumnus. It’s very possible that a certain interviewer received their assignments a week or two ago, but have been so busy with work/school/personal matters that they have not been able to attend to making arrangements. It’s still early in the process. I was doing interviews well into Feb last year. Be patient.

my interview was amazing! it didn’t even feel like an interview. we just talked about whatever was brought up. we talked about the environment, different cultures/societies and how they’re diff compared to us, music, and lots of other topics. we got so caught up in our conversation that it went on for 2 hours. by far, this was my favorite interview - which was unexpected because its harvard!

I was suppose to have mine today, but never woke up and got into a conflict with parents and ended up not going.

lol oh well I’m screwed.

@WindCloudUltra, another interviewer mentioned that Harvard will conduct fewer interviews from this year in their ‘new’ system. It sounds to me that they will offer interviews more selectively (i.e., ‘fewer’) unless Harvard has far more alumni volunteers than the past years? My S did not get email or call for interview yet and he is not aware of anyone from his school having been interviewed yet. Each year I would say 10-20 students apply from his school. This area is certainly much less crowded (with Harvard applicants) than NYC and SF. Are they being more selective this year?

^ No, interviews are not based on selectivity most people get them since they are supposed to be informal.

@hopingdad–Hmm. There was a shortage of alum interviewers last year due to the record-breaking number of applicants. I’m not sure what the final count for applications is this year, and it’s possible some candidates do not get interviewers assigned in time. I have not been informed about any change in policy of how candidates are selected regarding interview assignments.

“Applicants Applying within the United States-When and where possible, applicants may be invited to meet with alumni/ae in or near their school communities. No candidate is at a disadvantage if an interview cannot be arranged.”

This is Harvard’s official policy on interviews, and has been for a very long time. It’s still the official word on the admissions office site, so as far as I’m concerned, the applicants I’m interviewing this year were not pre-selected out of the initial applicant pool for some particular reason.

^ In this Harvard Interviewer’s blog (harvardinterviewer dot blogspot dot com), she says

A brand new year

I’ve been receiving emails from the Harvard Interviewing Committee telling me that they are changing the system.

Fewer interviews will be given this year, which means less pressure on interviewers, who in previous years were stretched pretty thin. That’s a good thing, in general."

She mentioned this in this CC thread a couple of days ago which has disappeared, as she mentions in her blog of her posts being deleted in cc. Anyway, I don’t blame the top schools handling the interviews differently in view of the overloaded situation in the past few years. But if they approach it differently from this year, it is only reasonable to direct their resources toward the part of applicants pool that is significant to their admission outcome, which will be the more competitive applicants and skip the interviews if the applicants are outright out of competition anyway. And this can be a cause for concern for applicants who were never contacted for interview.

^ That doesnt make sense though

I got contacted for an interview and my stats are qualified for the Ivies but I know of an applicant who has better stats than me and he wasn’t contacted

My Stats:

SAT 1: 2220 (CR: 730, Math: 730, Writing: 760) Single Sitting.
SAT 2: Math 2: 770, Chem: 750 (10th grade without an AP class),
Bio M: 730 (9th grade without an AP class)
Rank: None Exact but top 1% on secondary report
Hooks: First Gen, Kind ofish URM
Other Languages proficieint in: Arabic and Urdu
School Type: Young, Crappy, Limited Resources, and Small Independent Private School.
Essays: Amazing, (I think one very compelling and one very creative and original)

The other applicant has better stats than me but we both compared essays and we both agreed mine were much better lol. (I’m a good writer).

But why would Harvard change their system? I HIGHLY doubt it.

^ your stat doesn’t seem to be completely out of it. Look at the class of 2014 RD decision thread. There are plenty of admitted students with your stat, especially if you are URM.

^ Kind ofish URM and some other stuff.

I think it was arbitrary though, however if I do get accepted (A long shot lol), then its probably because of my essays since I put a lot of effor into them and made sure they were creative and unique.

Hello; I am newbi to this forum.

Hopingdad: Why would Harvard give you this information. BTW: What is URM? Do you know how many of the applicants get an interview request. Thanks.

URM=under represented minority
