How was your Thanksgiving?

Thank you to everyone who has shared. @intparent, I hope your daughter is okay!

Um. She threw up in the TSA security line. :frowning: Left line to go to bathroom and clean up, then had to get back in the (long) line to make her flight. She said she felt better, and just made her flight. It was stressful, but she is on her way back to school. Maybe now she will agree to get pre-check (I have offered to get it for her, she has refused so far). Other than that, we did have a pretty good holiday.

And, as @garland said, today is the big game. Go Blue!

The maize and blue is waving, the egg strata is in the oven, the coffee station is prepped, and I’m about to make orange-cranberry scones in my Michigan gear. The game is early here, so I’m making breakfast for all the Wolverine fans in our community who are coming over to watch the big game. Guests are bringing appetizers, and I’m making a turkey, dressing, and cranberry sandwich spread for later.

It looks like Michigan actually has a chance this year. If we win, those bottles of champagne are coming out of the fridge.

GO BLUE!!!

S1, DIL and GD just left for their home ~400 miles away. I’m sad. Having my just-turned-one year old GD here for 3 days was wonderful. Thanksgiving dinner turned out well considering I was making dinner for 8 in a very small kitchen whose oven I’m still getting used to. DH and I looked like a comedy routine trying to find free counter space and moving things around. We didn’t sound too comedic though. I told S1 that if he’s in a house by next Thanksgiving ( which is certainly their plan), I’ll do all the cooking as long as I have a bigger kitchen.

Oh, I hope she feels better very soon, @intparent.

Went great. 32 of us at my house including a big casino night birthday party the night before. Everyone really chipped in so it didn’t feel so overwhelming. I made too much food. I also recognize that 32 is probably the max I want to do. Hubby and I are going for a couples massage later this afternoon to recover!

I was prepared for a very blah day but it was better than expected. Just my family and my parents who are increasingly slowing down but don’t realize it. I am so glad to have S here, haven’t seen him since mid-August.

I made the usual food, have it down to a science. Today we went Small Business Saturday shopping in our little town which was nice.

M Go Blue! Actually, after 45 years, it’s more pleasant nostalgia than fervent mania. DH, otoh, grew up on the east coast but somehow due to his first roommate out of college became a fanatic fan of that team down south. Thought he was talking to me from the other room a few minutes ago. Nope, it was that roommate on the phone.

Several years ago, DH was out of town on a fall Saturday and I got a call from that roommate. “Marilyn, I’m so sorry,” he starts solemnly. OMG, I’m thinking, who died, I know DH is OK but who could it be…? Turns out “his” team had just beaten “my” team so he was expressing condolences. I hadn’t even realized they were playing. Scared me half to death.

Wow Michigan got the break they needed!!!

@ChoatieMom my family battles over skin! I was in heaven the first Thanksgiving I spent with my husband’s family- nobody wanted it but me!

@ChoatieMom Poultry skin wars here! Husband and sons are more neutral but do like the part that goes with their portion. My mother is more avid: at 88 years old she offers to both carve the turkey (we serve it carved and plated) and prep it for leftovers so she could get first shot at the skins! I love it too and turn down my mother’s offers of help only in part because I don’t want her overdoing anything. DIL is another big fan. I make sure she gets a piece with a lot of skin and then sneak her mine when my mother isn’t watching.

We had a low key but satisfying dinner. Just H, one or our kids, and me. I hiked in the morning, we had an afternoon dinner, then D and I went to see a movie.

Ours was nice but small. I am missing my youngest and her husband but I know they are having a blast on their vacation.

We had a great Tday —16 people total. The guests were mostly friends of our adult D (actors in the Christmas Carol at Trinity Rep who only get the day of Thanksgiving off) plus my son-in-law’s parents. Lots of good food and good company. Best thing I did was to get vegan Tday dinner from Whole Foods so we didn’t have to do a special prep for two vegans !) Also had three vegetarians who would eat eggs and dairy products, so they were fine with the regular meal except for the turkey. The turkey came from a friend’s farm—he gives us one every year.

There were 9 at my house - most I’d had for a while. 2 picky vegetarians in the mix but it was fine. Didn’t have enough oven space but it all got on the table somehow. Clean up is the worst part of the day! Next year I’m getting paper plates.

We had a lovely celebration at my sister’s. It was smaller than usual but loving and those present enjoyed it.

We don’t hesitate to just get a nicer Chinet or other nice, but disposable plate for the holidays. Neither I or my SIL like or have good china - and while there is extra garbage, it’s a nice luxury to not have to wash them all.

We go to friends’ house and there were 14 people including the 4 of us. My daughter’s boyfriend traveled to visit family and my son’s girlfriend didn’t make the trip to TN, so it was just our family invading the other house. I don’t cook, but I make a cranberry salad (one of 3 things I can make) and it’s great. My husband made a chocolate bourbon pecan pie. Daughter brought lots of wine. It was a beautiful day. My friend is really into table setting and china, so it was all gorgeous. It’s the South… SO much food, though. I love it all. 3 of us raced a Turkey Trot that morning (not son since he’s getting over a foot injury) so we earned a little of the food.

Many hands make light work, as the old saying goes. No way would I use paper plates for a holiday, personally. Put on some fun music and put some people on the clean up crew - clearing the table, wrapping up leftovers, doing dishes. Channel that scene from The Big Chill.

That’s my annual threat, @doschicos! I used my good china, flatwear, crystal and damask tablecloth. Mr. Sabaray is a good help. Now that Thanksgiving is over I get out my Spode Christmas Tree China and use that for everyday. When I was first married I admired my MIL’s set and she regularly gifted me with place settings. If one doesn’t do it up for the holidays, when else would be an appropriate time?

Agree about the China @Sabaray. It seems the only time I use my Wedgewood China and sterling silver (which was my mother’s) is on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
