How did things go with your children, your parents, the meal, the weather, anything and everything?
It was great having my two adult daughters at home. They like their new “sister”: the 12-year-old Collie I adopted in October. She likes them, too.

Everything was great here. Weather was beautiful. We liked the D’s BF. The dog liked the BF. In fact, the sometimes cranky dog was cordial to everyone.
We had a very nice Friendsgiving. Food came out great, weather was beautiful, wine flowed. Missed our daughter terribly though. But now we can start the countdown to her visit, 23 days!
One of my favorite Thanksgivings ever. Low-key, with only 7 of us–two oldest kids not at home, no other guests. 16yo D and her friend ran a neighborhood 5K in the morning.( H and I and two more of our kids went along and walked about 4K.) Weather was great, so we decided to put up our outdoor Christmas lights–I usually do it myself in December, but H helped this time. Then I cooked the dinner, which was not too elaborate–turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes/gravy, green beans, corn casserole, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie. Kids helped a bit with that. Everything turned out great. Since the weather was so nice, we went for another walk after dinner, saw the beautiful moonrise, then looked at two nearby light displays in our town. Came home, played board games…
All around a nice pleasant family time together–except for that couple minutes of bickering about the best way to put the Christmas lights on one particular tree!
Ours was really lovely and very chill.
H and S planned to run in the Turkey Trot but when they got up to go it was 2 degrees out.
We did go on a not so long walk later in the day - when it was a balmy 17.
It was just fabulous. Memorable, in fact.
Laid back, went to mass, easy 20 min ride to airport to pick up son. Walk on the beach and a late afternoon dinner with friends. Ate outside, they had the palm trees and fencing strewn with white lights. They did the turkey, appetizers, and desert, I did all the sides and wine. Also missed our daughter, she will be home for Christmas at the end of the term, can’t wait to see her.
Went to D and SILs place. First turkey for my daughter and it turned out great! Traditional sides, I made @Marilyn Cranberry Brie and it was yummy. Funniest part of the day was when my D went to carve the turkey and I asked if she wanted to be traditional and have her husband carve it…daughter said, ummm I’m the surgeon and SiL simultaneously said she’s the one good with the knife. She carved.
CottonTales, that is so great about your daughter. In my day, they discouraged females from surgery residencies.
Our first fried turkey was a hit! 13 pounds done in about 50 minutes!
Our little Thanksgiving for two turned out very nice, followed by dessert at friends’ house. Now off to eat leftovers…
Dinner last night was great. Kiddo and BF went back to their place. We are hosting our recent immigrant young friends tonight. I wanted to make something, but they requested leftovers - wanted to experience Thanksgiving in its complete glory.
First time I have made T-day (vegetarian for 35) in 40 yrs. I had some help from our organic grocery store. I doctored up some of the sides and made sides. The turkey, precooked, was difficult to get heated through but no one has been sick so it was ok. Delicious. My sweet potato romanoff was a favorite. H did most of the appetizers. The best food we have had in 12 years but missed being with our good friends as we have done for those 12 years. D and SIL and 9 week old and his parents were here. Declared it amazing and the best turkey they have had in a long time. I personally think it turned out because the food was actually hot when we ate it. Tricky thing to do! Overall a good day. G’Son predictably was a doll only to fuss when we sat down to eat. :))
Low-key. DS1 was up for a couple days. We brought my mother over from her place fifteen minutes away. She’s slowing down noticeably, so it was sweet to have a fun occasion with her. Later on we video chatted with 1,100-mile-distant DS2 and DIL. They showed us the mini pumpkin pies they made. A quiet but lovely day.
Do any of your guests fight over the skin? I wish I could just find a 14 lb bag of skin and call it a day. Otherwise, the day was perfect.
D, SIL, S and I ran in a local Turkey Trot - it was cold but but not terribly so. We had our usual group of close friends over so it was good food, good friends, good times as usual. Always my favorite holiday.
Was good til now. Dropped D2 at airport at 3 am for flight home. She mentioned feeling a little queasy when we were leaving (tried a new Thai place last night). She just texted from airport, in long security line and thinks she might throw up.
Told her to leave line and get to bathroom, and we’ll figure it out after that. There are flights available tomorrow, I checked. Poor kid.
Very different, but relaxing and nice, this year. My sister has hosted Thanksgiving (and Christmas) for at least 25 years. She lost her MIL and SIL both in the last three weeks and the FIL was put in a nursing home a week after the MIL died as he fell and split open his head and was hospitalized.
My brother and his wife stepped up to the plate and had the immediate family over and it was very nice. They live in a small house but they made it work, there were 10 of us, compared to the usual 30. My brother is a great cook and dinner was lovely. My D is home for the long weekend and we’ve been having fun together, I hadn’t seen her since late August when she left for school. I did miss my son though, although I should be used to it, I can’t remember the last time he came home for Thanksgiving. My D commented on how old my Dad seemed. He now walks with a cane and he’s growing a beard lol. I see him at least weekly so it hadn’t hit me like it hit her after three months.
All in all, very nice. But boy was it cold outside. Never hit the twenties here and it was a bitter wind.
It was just ok. The good part was I didn’t have to do it the first time in Umpteen years. Th downside that it was at BIL’s and it was excruciatingly boring. My kids didn’t want to go, we didn’t want to go, but couldn’t say no.
It started out a bit dicey and ended great!
We lost heat the day before, and it got down to 15 around here that night. shivered through the night, cold and achy in the morning, but by noon, furnace was fixed (thank you PSEG for having a repair slot open on TG!) and then I cooked much of meal while D (nine months minus a week pregnang) and SIL at their tiny apartment cooked the rest.
We took our part over, shared the day with D, SIL, S, and SIL’s brother who lives downstairs. Had a fabulous time.
And then yesterday we took the crew minus the brother out to dinner for an overdue celebration of D’s birthday.
And today is the Big Game.
Go Blue!
