Is it the same as a Finance/Accounting degree?

Depends on where you go to school, but unless you are at an Ivy, I personally do not find much value in an Economics degree by itself. You need to pair it with another degree or a minor at the very least to substantiate it. Adding a math component or international studies component and then going to graduate school in those areas will really be a nice touch to your undergraduate degree. There are a variety of areas you can add to an economics degree, but I do see them as necessary. My reasoning: You need to push economics into a practical arena. Math moves it towards modeling and statistics, international studies/political science/environmental studies pushes it towards policy. Finance pushes it towards finance/business.

As a stand alone degree, I think accounting is far and away the “best” undergraduate business degree, followed by finance. This is a generalization and some prestigious schools can definitely trump this view, but I think it holds true for much of the country.
