OK my guidance counselors just handed back our transcripts so I got to see my gpa over the years. So how will colleges see this? Freshman year-3.4/3.3 Sophomore- 3.5/3.6 Junior-3.8. So I know the up trend is good, and so far cumulative is 3.6. How will colleges look at this and will low freshman gpa hurt a lot. Oh and this year my xbox broke over the summer and im almost positive I can get a 4.0 without the distraction.

Another quick question is how do colleges know about your hooks besides like urm? Im half black/ half native american so I know that will help. I heard like first gen college student helps, but how will colleges figure it out? On the common app I just left my parents college education black since neither went.

The common application form asks you to report your race. If you are Native American, they will also want to know if you are officially registered with your tribe. They know you are first gen to college because they will ask about your parents education - sounds like you already saw the application and know that you leave that blank, which is how they figure it out.

Remember too that not all schools include your freshman grades in their GPA calculation and many schools weight it less (that ‘upward trend’ idea). Go for that 4.0! And practice for your SAT or ACT. Good luck!

Ok so I may have exaggerated on the whole native american thing a bit but my grandmothers name is Nokomis and hers name is Hiawatha so I think Im at least part native american and thanks for the help. Would a college get mad if I put native american on the app just from the info i have shown you?
