I’m from Illinois, and rarely anyone gets into Ivy League schools from my state. I go to a small high school with around 1,400 students. We don’t accomplish much, and last year, only three seniors got into Ivy League school.
I really want to go to an Ivy League school because of the opportunities they have to offer.
You posted you have a 3.1 freshman year and that you are a sophomore now. The 3.1 is bad, very bad. Ivies are looking for the academic cream of the crop with unique accomplishments.
If you go to a school that sent three kids to the Ivy League, that is actually quite an accomplishment for a small school.
The idea that no one from Illinois gets in to top schools is pretty laughable. Your odds are low (as nearly everyone’s are), but truly being from Illinois won’t be held against you.
—You currently have a 3.1 GPA as stated elsewhere so that will certainly make it difficult to get into an Ivy school.
—Why the obsession with Ivy schools? There are tons of wonderful colleges and universities that can give you a great 4 year college experience and get you where you want to go in life.
– Don’t get caught up in that “dream college” idea. When the time comes (junior year) asses your academic stats (including GPA, standardized tests, course rigor) as well as your financial needs and apply to a wide range of reach, match, and safety schools that appear affordable (you will have to run a net price calculator for each school you consider) and that you would be happy to attend.
