inchoative,

really? i don’t. regardless of what a bunch of 18 or 19 year olds “self identify” as, I would say 90% of the students come from christian families. Ask yourself, how many muslims and jews do you see running around? I’m willing to bet not a lot. I know because UVa and W&M have almost the same demographics, and there are few there.

doctorb,

simple solution. don’t make the chapel available at all times. i think that would fix most of the problems. that way, when you want to sign the building out it can be set up in any way you choose. the chapel doesn’t need to be available to anyone–last time i check there was no clause that said “when i come to w&m there has to be a non-demoninational chapel available to me 24/7.”

also, i don’t see how i’m being shortsighted. just because i may not PC, doesn’t make me ignorant. and in case you didn’t know, even the washington national cathedral, the congressionally designated national house of prayer, is a christian church.

jags-

Do you mean 90% of the kids that identify with a religion are Christian? If that’s what you mean, then yeah I would definitely believe that. But I think there are more than 10% of students who wouldn’t classify themselves as anything. But that’s just my impression.

Sigh----

jags just doesnt get it. education wasted on the young. Sadly Im sure I sounded the same way when I was that age. God bless my parents for patience.

I don’t think they track individual use. The chapel is open throughout the day - as long as Wren is open, I believe. I popped in once or twice as a student. Its usually empty, save a tourist or two.

swish,

oh i get it. its the principle. w&m can do whatever it wants to do, far be it from me to care. I’m just saying that the school did something which, IMO, was stupid and irrelevent, and it has now had adverse effects to the college. if someone had told the schoolt hat this would hav ehappened because of it, you’d bet that cross would still be in there. its too late now.

and as far as i’m concerned, I hope to be pragmatic, and not idealistic when i’m older–i like to think im that way now.
