Because I’ve been struck with a common disease (it’s called “too-much-time-on-my-hands”) your responses are greatly needed!!!

Okay so I was wondering how the admissions officers receive our files. Does the office scan everything into a database or something like that, so the adcoms will be reading our essays and shenanigans through a computer screen? Or is everything seen on paper?

This is random, I know, but I’m curious :P

Thanks a ton
-Hanna

printouts of exactly what you saw in your previews

I have that disease too. isn’t it great?
hmm…out of curiosity, canadianftw, how do you know?

^Good question. The common app is not in the order of the preview. If you will notice, for example, the future plans section on the preview (quick print) is not filled in. However, the future plans page on the common app online is completed.

Hmmmm…what do y’all make of this?

here’s what I make of this: we’re too bored… lol

doesn’t common app say when you submit something along the lines of make sure blahbalhba look exactly the way you want it as this is how the institution will view it blahbal

and on the preview you get when you submit, future plans is filled out accordingly for the college you’re submitting it to

i talked to a yale admissions officer, and i’m pretty sure this is the way it works:

1) the admissions officer in charge of your region gets a printout of your app and reads it, making comments
2) another random admissions officer also reads
3) the regional admissions officer presents the app in committee with all the other officers…your app is projected onto a large screen, and the admissions officers runs through it in a couple minutes and gives his recommendation. more often than not, the committee just goes with his recommendation, although it’s sometimes overturned.

So the regional admissions officer is quite important. If he thinks you should get in, most likely you will?

Meaning that if there’s an opportunity to meet this person at an informational session or something…you should definitely go? Because it might make a big difference…or no?

yep…because your regional officer is the person who’s most familiar with the region you’re applying from and can give the best analysis of your accomplishments

I’d def try to meet your regional officer in person, if you have a unique name, drop it in ;)

When I visited Princeton, our info session was lead by the dean (or assistant dean, I don’t remember) of admissions. She said that they download your app from the computer and then just print everything out so they have a hard copy to work with and pass around.
This is just Princeton though, so I’m not sure if that’s how it works at other colleges.

Thanks alot!!

Canadianftw–I will try my best to meet him/her then! And yes…I’ll make sure to mention my name, it’s quite unique and I have funny anecdotes about it! haha.
