<p>I have taken my SAT I 2 times. The first time around I got 1900. I just got the results for the October one and I got 1800 (which is a huge shock for me). Now before you tell me that my score sucks, blah blah…let me explain. My family is low income, so I was trying to save some money by using the 4 free score reports (I now regret doing this). I didn’t realize then that my October score would be so horrible. I was expecting atleast a 2100. Anyways, I went online to sign up for the November SAT only to realize that the registration was over. I can’t write it in December because that’s when I’m taking my Subject Tests (I’m confident that my SAT II scores will be 700-800.). I made a decision to take the ACT in December.
Anyways, I’m a U.S Citizen living in Canada.
My entire high school transcript since the 8th grade (here high school is from grades 8 to 12) is made up of A’s, and I have been in the top 5% every year since enter high school.
I was an athlete for 10 years, training under an Olympic medalist. I stopped training a year ago to focus on my studies and because of financial difficulties.
I have also worked 2 different jobs. Moreover, I am also certain that my reference letters are great.
Oh! I am also dedicated to 2 school clubs, one of which I founded (Debate Society).
Any idea how the poor scores will affect my chances?</p>
<p>I’m also wondering whether or not a great ACT score could replace the poor SAT scores when the admissions officers have access to both.</p>

Don’t sweat it.
If you manage to do well on the Subject Tests, and the ACT, I’d recommend sending the ACT (because then you would not have to send in your SAT scores at all). So, at this point, if I were you I’d focus much much more on the ACT.</p>
<p>Do not try to justify your SAT scores because Yale already has applicants who would have better scores than you. </p>
<p>Your training as an athlete is remarkable, I believe. You’re in the ballpark.

<p>The problem is that I have already sent in my SAT scores (unfortunately). I explained why in my original post.</p>

<p>So you don’t think that a very good ACT score would be able to “replace” the SAT scores?</p>
<p>It could, theoretically, but they’re going to see you did bad on your SATs, so your SAT performance will not back up your ACT performance (assuming it’s stellar).</p>
<p>Don’t worry about this too much now. What’s done is done.
Focus on the rest of your application including the essays.</p>
<p>MOST COLLEGES look at your best performances.
by most I mean the schools that people yearn to get into (e.g. Brown, Boston, USC, etc.)
so you’re okay… I’m in a similar situation as yours…</p>
