How would I address the director of a dept in an email?

Ok, this is the most lame question…but it has been awhile! I have written an email requesting an appt with the dental hygiene dept director at my prosepective college. He has written back asking for my best date and time. The first letter was sent to the dept in general so I didn’t need to address him directly, he was just the one who happened to respond…lucky me! No really. Anyway, should I start with hello ‘first name’? Include last name? Go for the full Dir. ‘first and last name’ or just Director?? Help!

Advice greatly apprectiated! Thanks all:)

Go for first name and last name. If he has a doctoral degree, include “Dr.”. If not, just stick with the first and last name.

“Dear Mr. Lastname”, unless he’s a professor, in which case, “Dear Prof. Lastname”. “Director” is the name of his position, not a way in which he should be addressed.

In general, it’s best to err on the side of formality when beginning a correspondence with someone.

Would the RDH or M.Ed in his title count? ;)

I don’t know what an RDH is. I’d stick with “Mr.”
