On the March SAT, I had the popular entertainment passage. I planned my essay well and had two solid examples showing how popular entertainment can unify a society and also act as a conduit for social change.

I discussed the Gladiator fights in Ancient Rome, and wrote about how these events mitigated class differences in the society, as everyone from the Emperor to the bread-maker could relate to the themes of courage, heroism, and the basic appeal of violence.

In my 2nd example, I spoke about the Enlightenment and how anti-religion sentiment and anger with Europe’s state of affairs were often communicated through the arts, including ballet, theater, and music.

I had excellent vocabulary and good grammar, and fully filled two pages.

I had two MAJOR issues though:

First of all, after my thesis I left a full line blank! I noticed too late to go back, but there is an empty space between thesis and first body paragraph.

Secondly, because of this error I ran out of space at the end to state my conclusion on a separate line. So I have a stated and clear conclusion, but it’s simply a continuation of the 2nd body paragraph. I put an arrow to attempt to indicate it was separate, but it still didn’t look good.

SO, how will this affect my score? If the quality, vocab, and grammar were about a 5-6 level, will these structural issues heavily hurt my score?

Thank you so much for your answers, and please feel free to link me to any questions you have or to topics you would to discuss, I’d love to help.
