How

Got deferred with the “good” letter but my twin brother with the same stats got accepted…

His name maybe sounds cooler than yours

For real though it could have just been the admissions officer who looked at your app. Different people judge differently.

Your regional admissions office would have looked at both apps. I guess your twin was just a bit better.

Very unusual. Siblings applying together have their applications flagged at essentially all Colleges. Obviously it is a unique and sensitive situation, and schools are aware of this. To give different decisions to statistically similar siblings sounds like an error to me. It virtually guarantees parental intervention which is one of if not THE last things AOs want to be dealing with in January.

This is obviously not a final decision. Many deferred students are eventually admitted. Michigan has shown interest in the two of you, admitting one. I would not be surprised if you should interest, they will admit you too.

What was the “good” deferral letter? I got the one that starts

“Thank you for your application to the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts for Fall 2015. We are pleased that you have applied and are impressed with your achievements. However, our high application volume, coupled with the very strong credentials of our applicants in recent years, has contributed to an increasingly competitive admissions process. As a result, we are writing to inform you that your application is currently being deferred…”

Hoping this letter is the good one because I really and truly was expecting an acceptance.

This may be more common than you think. I know two twins who had a similar situation two years ago. Two identical twins who had almost identical transcripts (same activities, courses, etc.) applied. One was accepted EA and one was deferred EA and I believe ended up getting in RD. Tough situation so hang in there. If you are as similar to your twin as you say, then you are certainly qualified and I would predict that you will get in RD. Best of luck.

Yeah that’s the good one
