HS Junior looking for cachet

I know I want to major in history, and, as the thread title makes clear, I want to do it at the best school possible - I don’t care about what state it is in. I also know it’s a pain for me not to mention schools, but I don’t want to mention Ivies and then hear “reach”.

I’m currently an IB diploma candidate and Eagle Scout. Major involvement in debate (1st place speaker awards multiple years),forensics, and scouting (SPL). My classes are the usual advanced honors stuff with an unweighted GPA 3.6.

-PSAT scores Overall -210, CR - 77, Math - 63, Writing - 70.

I just took the ACT, and will be taking it again with my school in a couple of weeks…I got a 29 (English-36, Math-28, Science-24, Reading-28, Writing-9) which, I know, sucks. I didn’t answer 3 Reading Q’s which made me irrationally upset and that destroyed me on science. Yeah, I’m equivocating but still… I think I can reasonably expect a 31-33 when I take it again in 3 weeks.

-A smattering of other extracurriculars - Youth in Government, Key Club, etc., but the ones I listed above are the ecs I actually do stuff in.

Any thoughts would be great.

Well, you need to decide upon certain components first.

For example:

-Is weather a factor?
-Public or private?
-Is cost a factor?
-Do you want to go to a LAC?
-Are research opportunities essential?
-Is size a factor?

^^^

Agree with the above questions…

What is your intended career? Do you wish to go to law school or grad school?

How much your parents are willing to pay and your financial situation will have a lot of influence on where you should apply.

How much will your parents contribute each year to your education? Will they pay $50k+ per year?

If money is no object, then great!
