How different are they? Is it harder to get an A in Yale than in high school?

yes, at least for me. its easiest, with a good work ethic, to get a B. but people do get As. it depends on what classes you take and where your priorities lie. of course, grade inflation does help somewhat…

Depends on your classes. If you take Eng 114 it would be hard not to get an A; if you take DS, it would be hard to get a B. Math classes are pretty easy compared to other schools. I’d say most classes require more work than high school classes, but you have more time to do it.

it is of course harder, but i assure you that if you can get into yale, you are completely capable of getting an A here. mostly it just depends on how much time you want to spend working…you’ll have a lot more choice because you’ll probably only have ~3 hours of classes per day, so you get to pick how you want to spend your time. but yes, if you work hard enough, you can get an A in whatever you want.

Overall, it’s harder. It also depends on the class. I don’t think I’ll ever get an A on any paper in my English 120 (writing) class, but my roommate, who’s in English 129 (literature), told me his professor expected most people to get A’s on their papers.
On the other hand, most people consider Chinese to be one of the most difficult classes here, but I’ll be surprised if I don’t get an A in that class without too much effort.

About math classes: I’ve heard the opposite. I’ve heard that people have been getting killed on their midterms (I’m in 230, so that doesn’t count), and I’ve heard that math classes here aren’t as good as at other schools, mostly because the professors/TAs aren’t too good at teaching.

It of course depends upon how hard your high school grades, but the sciences (and math) are tough at Yale. You have to realize that unlike in your high school (probably), almost everyone at Yale is at least as bright as you are, and may be working harder than you. While all schools have their share of “easy” classes, Yale, especially in the sciences, is no walk in the park.

depends on your high school. if you go to a top high school with a particular emphasis on english/ humanities, you’ll find that college is easier than you expected.
