That’s the way we felt also.

Reminds me of when I went to high school (late 60s to early 70s). Hair length was a BIG deal. If you were a boy with long shoulder length hair, you couldn’t get your photo in the yearbook. Seemed dumb to me then, but the shoe is on the other foot now that I am a parent. Having seen long haired kids grow up to be military officers and conservative businessmen, seems like hair styles don’t have much to do with the future at all!

We had the same discussion in our family at about the same age. My only parameters were ‘You will not look unkempt. You will look clean and well-groomed.’ He accepted, but lost interest before hair was long enough! Good luck. This, too, shall pass.

I would never fight with a kid about hair. My younger son has shoulder length hair and secretly I love it.

Trustafarian. Hey. It’s a look.

My BF loves having his hair ‘long’. Not like, to his shoulders, but past his ears… He throws on a hat and then you can’t even tell how long it is. I got my hair cut really short one day and it wound up being even shorter then his. Very next day he showed up at work with a new hair cut, less than an inch long. Everyone was amazed… I guess it was the first time anyone saw him with his hair that short. He goes there is no way I am having longer hair then her, lol! Recently he grew it back to that length again, and about a week ago he decided to surprise me by cutting it off again. The long hair kind of looks shaggy and slackerish… I don’t mind it either way, but I do think he looks really sharp with it cut short. :)
