HSA/W-2 and TurboTax Question

My company started the HDHP for 2012. My W-2 shows $7300 while my actual contribution is $6250 with $1000 contribution from my company ($7250 total).

Q1- Does anyone encounter the above?
Q2- TurboTax figured out that there was a $50 Excess contribution

Should I just change the $7300 to $7250 in the W-2 section to make it right?

No, you want to have a correct W-2 from the company. Contact the company and find out why it says $7300 and issue a corrected W-2 if necessary.

No, you need to contact your payroll department and ask them why they are reporting the wrong number, and ask they can send a corrected W2.

If you “correct” it in turbotax, the IRS will eventually get around to sending you a letter saying their numbers don’t match yours, and please pay the additional taxes due, because they amended the return for you to reflect the numbers sent to them by your employer.

Why this question has to do with Financial Aid & Scholarships Discussions?

Thanks for the help. I got a ticket from the help desk for payroll folks to look into it.

W-2 info is required for filing tax return which is required for CSS/FAFSA. I find it amusing that someone would bother to question my post.
