HSSEAS Admit Day

I heard that Al Gore invented the Internet…

do you have any comments on that?

was i the only one that noticed this, or were almost all the engineering professors terrible speakers?

Hahahah, get used to this. I’ve had 3 years worth of engineering courses and found that maybe 5 of my engeering profs have been engaging speakers, and I’m being generous with that number. Remember that most of these professors are here for research, not their teaching ability.

The EE guy seemed pretty capable.

The assistant professor (or whoever he was) at the EE department meeting was super enthusiastic…maybe a little bit TOO enthusiastic, if you ask me.

UCLA invented Al Gore.
Also, only one of the CS speakers was a lecturer (Prof. Smallberg)…

The CS Department professor was the most boring guy… ever. I hope I don’t actually have to take a class from him for at least four years ;o

Overall, the general session was okay, but the CS & CSE Department presentation was rather dry and didn’t really provide too much useful information.

I have to say though, I loved the campus. The architecture fits in so well with the natural aspects… the whole campus had a really positive vibe. I was pretty happy with the housing too, although as our tour guide explained it, over 60% of freshman get triples. Guess that’s something that’ll take some getting used to.

Ouch. It was funny how in the Royce Hall all the different chairs had a different accent. And I seriously felt like slapping that Al Gore guy (PS: [Did Al Gore invent the internet?](<a href=“Al Gore - Wikipedia”>Al Gore - Wikipedia))

The CS department chair the Cong guy was ugh boring. And the same for the other guy. Only the yellow shirt dude was interesting. I had more interest in reading the Standard Potential Reduction things than listening to the Cong dude.

the housing guy was the best speaker… aquafina hahaha

guaranteed housing in 2007!
OOHH just kidding just wanted to see if everyone was paying attention!

I went on the housing tour, and we met that guy in person, up in De Neve Plaza.

He was kind of an a**.

Yeah… I was at the HSSEAS Admit day with a friend on Sunday and heard that Al Gore thing… I thought it was ridiculously off topic and unnecessary… Anyway, about that housing aquafina guy, at the Welcome day that we had today, a girl did not hear a question being answered and asked it again… so that guy like totally made her look dumb saying things like “did I not just go over that here?” “why don’t you ask the gentleman that asked the question, he can answer it.” It was just really unkind of him to do that in front of a ~400 people audience.

yah, the open house was not what i expected.
It seemed very engineering-stereotypical, b/c they kept talking about how they could help guarantee your financial security and future and etc…

anyways. my overall visit at ucla was nice, i enjoyed the environment, talking to ppl, and also meeting up w/ some friends there =]

i enjoyed the open house they gave away alot of information
overall the campus is nice and the engneering program looks good
