HSSEAS Faculty Advisor Meetings

Is this new that they’re now requiring that we meet with our faculty adviser or else we get a hold placed on our account? I don’t remember this being required at all and doesn’t it kind of defeat the purpose of the advising meetings if you’re being forced to meet lol.

Anyone know how long these meetings usually take?

It’s not new. My son had to do it a few years ago. It’s a very short meeting, though, mostly to make sure you are planning your curriculum properly.

I think it’s the first quarter where you will get a hold if you don’t get a paper signed by your advisor. The meeting is informal, what you get out of it is up to you. A lot of the professors don’t want to do it, but the dean has made it mandatory.

You can talk about your career path or research opportunities (these meetings are meant to break the ice). It should take 30 minutes at most, or 5 minutes if you want it to be that short.
