Huh..for all of you struggling with the reading...

So the other day in my eng class we took the AP ENG multiple choice practice test…and it was HARD

any thoughts on possibly using AP reading sections and multiple choice to make the reading section on the ACT seem easier

I definitely think taking those practice tests for AP English Language and Comp helped me score higher in the reading section. Overall I had an increase of 7 or 8 points! I did have to do some ACT practice tests on my own, but those AP tests are really hard, so it did make the ACT seem easier.

I can’t say about making the AP test easier, but I can give some help on the ACT reading?

It’s best to flip ahead and read the passage that is easiest for you first. Mine is prose, so I would start with that and end with the science one.

Another thing that could help with any form of testing, but works well with the ACT reading section is DON’T THINK. Meaning, go with your gut feeling when you look at the questions. If you overthink a problem, chances are you will send yourself in the wrong direction or just confuse yourself.

In order to improve the accuracy of your gut feeling, do some practice questions and look seriously at the answers. Some books will have questions and then answers, and will even explain why the answer is blah blah.

I’m a fast reader, so I tend to read the passage first then answer the questions. However, you may want to approach it differently. It might help to scan the questions first to see what to look for when you read the passage. Or you could read each passage and then make important comments on the side of each paragraph that summarizes the paragraph (ex: 1 pgrph, introduction of author, 2 pgrph, author’s favorite past time…)

Hope that helps :)

yup great stuff guys and thanks for the help
