Human Ecology is not Ivy?

I read on cornell’s website that the College of Human Ecology is a “New York state contract unit.” What exactly does that mean and does it mean that CHE is not as academically challenging or not an “ivy league” college?

It’s not an Ivy. On your diploma, it will say “___ has graduated from the SUNY College of Human Ecology” and has fine print on the bottom that explains specifically how the college you graduated from isn’t an Ivy and is not associated academically with Cornell University.

HE is an ivy. There are two types of schools at Cornell: endowed schools and contract schools. Contract schools are partly funded by NYS. It’s still an ivy, but it’s generally erroneously associated with SUNY. If you feel that bad about going to HE, transfer internally.

Not this again…lol IT IS and IVY!!! it is a contract college,it just gets a lot of funding from the state (not a bad deal lol), but it is part of Cornell, thus Cornell has complete jurisdiction…

The colleges don’t get a lot of funding. I think it’s around 10% of the total funding.

timduncanbball do you go to Cornell? if not don’t answer questions.

Sarcasm, at which Timduncanbball is very good sometimes, whatisinaname.

it’s not, so don’t apply

OMG. why does it seriously matter? IVY LEAGUE STANDS FOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE. even if cornell weren’t an ivy, it’s still a good college.

ok srry I was worried

It’s a fake IVY, don’t go, you’re better off going to SUNY whatever.

lol…

I have a question - why is it only CAS that’s required to send out RD decisions on the sames date as other ivies? Many kids heard from Hotel, AEM heard before March 29. That’s the case with Penn’s nursing school - RD came out Feb.

Think about it this way. The ivy league is a sports conference. Whether u are in CAS, HE, CALS, etc. u r obviously eligible to be on a cornell varsity team and compete in the ivy league. Therefore it is in the ivy league.

What ur basically asking is “if i go to HE, do i go to Cornell?” What do u think the answer is?

this is what your cornell degree will look like if you’re getting a BS

contract college just means that it gets a bit of funding from NY state, and therefore its supposed to provide some services back to NY…trust me cornell, any college is tough…

Yeah, about what that idiot said about the degrees from the contract colleges saying “SUNY” on them, the link submitted several entries above obviously proves him wrong.

Also, the part about ONLY Arts and Sciences being made to stick to the single notification date as the rest of the Ivies, here is the explanation:

The College of Art, Planning… and College of Engineering also adhere to these dates.

The reason why the other colleges are able to disclose decisions earlier is that they have majors specific to Cornell, and so letting perspective students know of their decision early would not be “stealing” students from the other ivies.

For, the reason why the whole Common Admission date was established in the first place was to make sure that all the members of the Ivy League had an equal and fair opportunity to obtain the best of the best (hence, if yale were able to admit students 1 month before cornell, vice versa, yale would have an advantage as that student might be more inclined to accept yale’s offer before seeing any of the other ivys’ decision!)

However, as stated above, since the other colleges have majors unique to cornell, their earlier notification is allowable under the Common Notification clause.

ugh, i know its a lot, but there’s your reason!

as i was saying in my earlier post, the same thing applies to upenn. since the upenn school of nursing has a major unique to upenn and, thus, letting perspective students know of their decision earlier would not be “threatening” to the other ivy leagues, it is allowable. however, that fact does not make this wonderful school any more or any less a part of the ivy league than the other colleges/schools at upenn!

also, the schools that notify you a bit earlier have rolling admissions…
