Human Genetics PhD programs

I’m currently an undergrad (just finished my 3rd year) and I’m looking at PhD programs in the area of genetics, and I’d like to specialize in human or medical genetics. Which schools should I consider? My university doesn’t have an overly extensive human genetics faculty, so I haven’t really gotten a feel for which schools I should be looking at.

It’s supposed to come out before the fall, I think.

so, the term “human genetics” usually involves either translational medicine or genomics…which are you looking into?

I’m actually interested in the same thing, but I’m interested in the genomics aspect of things…for which Stanford, MIT, WashU, and a number of other institutions have a great program for.

For translational, I heard Harvard just instigated this program that is supposed to be pretty good…human translational medicine or something like that…I think John Hopkins is also a pretty good one for applied genomic medicine.

I would also talk to a professor or two from your school and ask them for their advice (even if they don’t specialize directly in what you’re interested in, and even if you don’t know them that well.) Professors are typically well acquainted and experienced, and even if they don’t know, they can probably put you in contact with some pretty helpful people.

Oooh, damn. Salutes your intelligence
