Human Trafficking

This is the only forum of educated people I belong to so here goes. I have become interested in Human Trafficking after a lecture at work about kids in Bay Area being trafficked, and an article in Time this week that said 1.2 Milliion children in India are in forced prostitution. I have two questions

 1. does anyone know a good book-preferably paperback that addresses the situation? I did see a dept of state 2010 report that I am trying to send for

Does anyone know a visible, national organization working on the problem

thanks
I hope to get my kid’s school involved with the issue

I would advise against getting involved in human trafficking, even if you are interested in it. It is illegal.

For the past two nights, ABC nightly news with Diane Sawyer has been running a story about sex trafficking (and very young girls getting into prostitution) in Portland, OR.

Since this was on primetime, national news, it’s quite a relevant and important story. Sadly, it’s not just happening in India. Go to ABC News for their complete story.

Toledo ranks #4 on the list in the U.S.

Here’s a helpful web site:

How about a collection of Nicholas Kristoff’s op-ed pieces on the problem? Excellent reading…

[Polaris Project | Combating Human Trafficking and Modern-day Slavery](http://www.polarisproject.org/)

The October Readers Digest has an article on it and a woman who works for ICE who’s helping to fight it.

I’d highly suggest looking into International Justice Mission. You can learn more about it at: [International Justice Mission - IJM Home](http://www.ijm.org/).

Human Rights Watch does some work with it; if you can stomach they’re other political advocacy, they do do some good work…
