Consider this situation…first semester in college, and a person gets three A/A+'s and a C. If this person maintains all A’s/A-'s throughout the rest of college, how would this “C” first semester of freshman year be viewed by good medical schools? Would it be better to Withdraw?

… C’s are bad but not catastrophic. (Duh?) If you’re at Duke, a W would pull your courseload down from 4 to 3. This would then prohibit you from ever taking three credits again.

It is therefore NOT better to take the W, given the school you’re at and the courseload you’re balancing. Normally a W probably is better than a C, I guess.

Fortunately for you, it’s only October. Put in the work and bring that grade up.

BDM:

It’s just my guess, but if DeltaRoyale failed a first mid-term, it could be impossible to receive a grade any higher than a C at the end of the semester.

DeltaRoyale:

A C is not good. However, given that it’s your first semester in college, it can be explained away due to inexperience. Just don’t make getting C’s a habit.

Thanks for the advice. shadeschildren, I did not fail first midterm, but I was just wondering about if I got a C, how it would adversely affect me, but BDM is right in that it’s only October and there’s plenty of time left in the semester
