Humans evolved in Europe not Africa? interesting story

this is very interesting.

if it is correct a lot of text books will need rewritten.

Interesting, though it will take a lot more than this to prove where modern man came from, it is possible that hominids evolved in Africa and Europe and that for example, the one they found, died out. The only way to tell for sure is to analyze DNA, which they won’t have with this find more than likely (not sure if you even can get DNA from something that old, one of the biology whizzes on here probably know), as in if the DNA of this species is found in modern humans, if they can’t trace it, then it likely is a dead end, which abound. Not to mention it is possible that the split happened in both places, and modern man is a mix of the two lines, they know there were two migrations out of Africa and the second one is directly tied to homo sapiens, so anything is possible. Sadly, I can see white supremacists using this to prove the superiority of ‘the white race’ and so forth, that modern man came from Europe and Africans are from an inferior sub branch sigh.

Personally, I think given how much mankind has faced, including its own cruelty and hatred for each other that seems to be hardwired in, the amazing part isn’t the origins, but that 7 million years later we still exist.

On the other hand, they made a big deal not long ago that they discovered via DNA that Neanderthal man did cross breed with the later hominids, that didn’t surprise me, just look at Rob Gronkowski lol.

It’s a theory- one of many. Personally, I think their evidence is flimsy at best. There is only one analyzed fossil and it was of just a jaw- nothing more.

I am always interested in learning new and exciting things about our origins (probably why I was an anthro major in undergrad lol), and the new technology they’re using is AWESOME. But it’s incredibly premature to go rewriting any textbooks.

The oldest human genome ever sequenced was apparently 430,000 years old.

@zobroward
I think you’re misunderstanding what is really being said. That newly discovered creature was not human (homo-sapien), but some humanoid creature thing. So although it might be older than the humanoids found in Africa, it’s still widely accepted that the FIRST HUMANS left Africa than populated other areas. This can be proven by genetic diversity tests as two random ( Western, central, southern, eastern) Africans are more genetically diverse and different than an (ethnically) European and Asian person.

Ask Galileo and Columbus about dearly held scientfic “facts”

^^ or the scientist whose “facts” showed that vaccines cause autism

Comparing modern science and research findings to Galileo and Columbus is just… not an appropriate comparison. To begin with, we’re not living in a society run by the church.

Only Galileo is remotely applicable to your argument.

Regarding Columbus, contrary to popular belief, the educated elite in the Medieval era…including the King and Queen of Spain knew the Earth was round and not flat.
