Huntsman

Hi, I am interested in the Huntsman Program and it would be great if people who are currently attending this program to give me some help.

I know that this program is about getting dual degrees in International studies and Business but my question is what is an International Study?
At Huntsman, do you primarily study about trade and diplomatic relations between the countries, or do you study broader topics such as the global povery or global warming etc? What sort of things can I expect to study if I get into this program?

International Studies is, in general, a two-part aspect of the Huntsman program.

The first part would be the preparation for study abroad, which are language credits in your target language. The second part are the social science background course (International Studies) that are international in scope. Examples: Almost any polisci classes, many sociology and anthropology classes, international econ, most history classes (not the ones that are focused on one country).

The second part is the area studies and international business courses which are generally taken in the last two years at Penn. The IB courses can be International Finance or Multinational Management; or, if you’re looking for something more diplomacy-related, there are classes like International Housing Comparisons, where you look at different countries’ housing systems (Case studies, for example, on Thailand, Mexico, Tanzania, Brazil, etc.) and try to solve the problems based on Housing Finance, or Housing stock, or construction, or economic stability, etc. You get your choice. And area studies are taken abroad, these focus on the region of your target language, and learning about the area that you are specializing in, culturally, historically, economically, etc.

I hope this answers your question; please let me know if you need more information.
