I’m not in the area - but am seeing some of the news reports on how quickly it developed with landfall within hours?
Hope any CC’ers or CC’ers w/family/friends stay safe.

DD has a relative who lives in the panhandle but was not in the evacuation area. Hoping they are OK.
@abasket Michael has been around for a few days. FSU announced on Monday the it was closing Tuesday - Friday. We keep a close watch on hurricanes because we have family in FL. Ironically my brother, Michael is smack in the middle of the expected path. He’s boarded up the windows, got supplies and an a generator and plans to ride it out. Crossing my finger it doesn’t make a cat 4.
Yikes it was fast! Just last week, there was that Kirk…
Its getting pretty big. Lots of mandatory evacuation. It is scheduled to weaken quickly after coming ashore, but who knows…
We have friends who JUST bought a beach house… in Panama City
What an unfortunate timing!
At least it will move through quickly. Panama City Beach has many high rises and wind speeds are higher up at higher levels apparently. I’m sure there will be lots of broken windows!
We were nearby at Laguna Beach a few weeks ago. It’s just gorgeous there and I’m happy to say that the beach is huge with a big distance from surf to dunes. That will help. Also, not every stretch of beach is built upon. The storm surge will probably come right up onto the road though.
That’s actually where their house is- but a half block from the beach. Pretty vulnerable.
Our friends near Destin were ordered to evacuate. Crossing fingers that their home is unscathed…
Santa Rosa County FL issues trespass warning against Jim Cantore :))

I’m in Augusta visiting my dad and am leaving early to head to northwest GA tomorrow afternoon, where things should be fine. Storm tracking as of right now goes through Augusta. Was supposed to head home to MD on Thurs., but that means I’d be driving during the peak of the storm through a good part of the day. Will go up the western route and then head east once I’m clear of the storm track.
If y’all are in the path, please be safe!
ETA: Weather Channel is now saying it’s a CAT 4. Cantore alert!
I’m flying into Miami tomorrow night. Planning on putting on lots of extra gas and flying a good distance away from it. Looks to be a monster.
Keeping fingers crossed,=but with the warm weather, may stay at a three. I doubt Miami will be hit, other than rain and wind,
Wow. It’s a Cat 4 now with 145 mph winds.
Jim is still in Panama City Beach.
My daughter is supposed to be flying out of Atlanta this afternoon! She’s taking a test this morning then heading to the airport. This is her fall break, she may be spending it back at school.
Flights from Atlanta this afternoon should be ok depending upon where she is headed to. Prayers for everyone who lives and works in the affected areas. Here in the Tampa Bay area, we have some alternating sun with brief showers and a nice breeze. There was some local street flooding last night due to the new moon, higher tides and some storm surge. More local flooding expected this afternoon and evening. Rip currents along the beaches, people out there surfing!
So I’m watching a stupid reporter sitting out in the strong winds saying “WOW, so THIS is what it feels like!”
So exciting!
So glad for responsible reporting.
Atlanta is fine. No worries.
I was somewhat concerned about Atlanta tomorrow, though. I had booked a flight with a short connection time through Atlanta, and changed it to Minneapolis, because when they get a lot of storms, while not life threatening, it can really mess up the flights in and out of there. Not worth the stress if it’s avoidable. I really need to get home.
