I could’ve started this thread. I’ve complained about H’s driving on CC before.
He has totaled two vehicles and had quite a few accidents and maybe half a dozen tickets and several more warnings as well. (Both totaled vehicles and several of the other accidents were weather-related, all but two were single vehicle accidents–and the other two he was hit by someone else (not his fault, but both could’ve been avoided). He was never injured more than a few bruises, thank God–but part of being a good driver is knowing WHEN NOT TO DRIVE–ice storms, blizzards, heavy rains, etc.) Only one of those (10?) accidents I was in the car with him. I back-seat drive constantly–which makes him mad, but I say I’m saving my life/our kids lives. Yet I dislike driving and for some reason don’t want to drive when he is in the car with me. (I hate the image a woman driving a man around. . .) I drive my kids all the time, even on long trips. There are really just a few problems with his driving: following too close, speeding, constantly wanting to PASS people, (testosterone?) not merging until the last second, (I hate when people do this!) not anticipating what other people need to do–when traffic is merging he gets himself boxed in. . .I am extremely careful not to do this. OTOH, he has quick reflexes and always remembers how to get anywhere if he’s been there once (which is amazing to me since I’m–female). He has usually arranged to live very close to where he works because he hates wasting time commuting. So that keeps him off the highways–at least during the week. BTW, I’ve been driving since 16 and never had an accident/one ticket in a known speed trap. I’m lucky, I know. But I’m also very careful, considerate, and defensive.

I’ve just returned from 2 very long road trips (50+ hours of driving) --half of which I drove myself. I saw a lot of really rude driving going on–worse than ever. And some horrible accidents with injuries. Are people just jerks, or what?
