Hypothetical Admissions Question

Just wondering, if you could choose 1 of 2 people to accept:

 1. 4.0 GPA, did speech but did not go to nationals
 2. 3.6 GPA, got 3rd place at speech nationals

Thanks!
Chris

Not nearly enough info to go on.

If there was one spot remaining, applicant #1, 98 out of 100 times.

My guess is you’re number 2, right? Your solution: apply to a broader range of schools. Transcript > ECs every time.

I’m #1 except I have a 3.93 GPA and I’m only a sophomore

Hooks like this will definitely help. I think speech is a great EC because it shows individual accomplishment and its a life skill.

Understand though that most selective admission is kind of like a speech tournament. You need to qualify for the final round with your grades/scores. Then you win admission with great accomplishments like state/national wins.

GL.

By the way, went to nationals twice (extemp and student congress) and my GPA was around 3.6. Scary.

Wow, I also do Extemp and student congress!

May I ask how successful were you in the college admissions process?
