Hypothetical Transfer Question

Say I was going to transfer for fall of 2008…right? And, they say you’re supposed to have a really strong schedule to transfer (but idk if that applied to musical theater). Would this be “strong” or does it not matter? (it’s a freshman schedule)

English 101
Spanish 203
Philosophy 101
Music Harmony 151
Safety seminar

what is safety seminar?

it’s new orleans so we have a seminar in safety lol

oh lol. I am a biochem major so I don’t really know what is “hard” and “easy” for other majors but I can’t say if I looked at your scheduel I wouldnt think it is rigorous. However it meets the transfer requirements of most gen. eds for colleges. Unless you are looking to go to somewhere like the iveys I would say you’ll be fine as long as you get good grades.

Agree that it’s a little hard to say whether that schedule is “hard”, not knowing much re Musical Theatre majors. You might post your qx on the MT forum here on cc.

One way to judge the difficulty of a schedule though is simply in terms of # of credits.

Let’s say that 15 credits is around the norm. If your schedule above consists mostly of 3-credit courses and the “Safety Seminar” is only 1 unit, that would be 13 credits - maybe a little light. If they were mostly 4-credit courses, that is pretty strong.

So I suggest you look at the typical credit load of the school(s) where you want to transfer and make sure not to go “light” on number of credits. Don’t go so heavy that you have trouble doing well, either.

thats definitely a strong schedule jeremy, especially coming from tulane…why are you looking to transfer already, you havent even gone to class once yet lol…where do you want to transfer to?

lol there are some financial mishaps going on jayhawk. I JUST found out about them too! so i’m not too pleased. my dad recently lost his job and so we’re having trouble thinking of loans and whanot. Then, I just looked at the curriculum of the major i’m going into and it’s not what i originally thought it was. I’m not definitely going to, it’s only a thought. that’s why i put this thread as “hypothetical” it’s just kinda like “hmm i wonder maybe if…” But i really am excited for tulane. i just hope that all the financial stuff works out and that the curriculum isn’t really as far from what i wanted as i thought lol.

haha i see…what other schools were you thinking of bro?

I’m really not quite sure. I was thinking maybe along the lines of nyu, but tha’ts the only school i’ve thought of. I haven’t given much thought because chances are i might not even transfer. but it’s possible. who knows (kinda like the possibility of an isolated thunder storm)

If financial matters are the driving force, that’s a very special consideration - especially for transfer. If you decide you want to try some transfer options, I think it will be very important for you to understand the likelihood of financial aid for you and your family at various possible schools.

Personally, I don’t have much first hand knowledge on that aspect. I do know that merit aid is dramatically more scarce for transfers than for freshman admissions. I have heard that it is tighter for need-based, but don’t know that for sure. I have also heard that NYU is among schools notable for poor financial aid.

So check all of that out, if it comes to pass that you want to transfer.

Also: have you contacted Tulane re the change in financial situation for your family? You should. It is entirely possible that they will review and improve your package or, if you don’t currently have need-based aid, that you may receive some.
