I-20 and transfer in Summer Term

Hi;

I know for international student, if you start your school at Summer you will need to take minimum number of credit hours even in summer (12 for undergrad and 9 for grade).

But how if I transfer my I-20 and start in a new school on Summer, would that minimum number of credit hours restriction will still apply.
