I <3 northwestern, will they <3 back?

Hello everyone thank you for taking a look I really could use some help!
NW has been my absolute dream school for a long time. I am a Pakistani and we here have to make do with the very very limited opportunities we have. Thankyou for giving me a moment!

I am an Asian student and have studied in asia all my life.
I had 8 As and 1 B in my olevls. Ie, sophmore year.
I got As in World history and Physics and a B in Biology. I am repeating biology and will give maths in october ( i expect As in both), plus, i will do economics next year also.Which means a gpa of 4.0 /4.0 in the USA
I did the SAT last january and got a 1950. I am retaking it in November and am very confident I’ll get around 2100-2200. Sat 2s in december, World History physics and maths and expect atleast 750s.
My real strength is Physics. I was selected for the National Physics talent competition.
My physics teacher says he’s never seen a better physics student.
I have made numerous projects at home with my grandad ( automated lighting, elevators, winches, water timers and the list goes on …)
I have written several physics related articles for local and national science magazines.
I was also the physics teacher’s assistant and a peer tutor.

I was the runner up for the UWC schollarship to Norway for IB.
State swimming team.
Intel science fair nationals
Won 2nd prize South East Asia Ham radio contest (google ham radio if you are curious :P)
Won this prestigious internship at ActionAid out of 55 people.
Help my own little fundraiser and bought and distributed lifestraws with the earnings.
Honoury mentions at 2 MUNs
9 years of piano lessons
Developed apps for smartphones (in a team)
50 hrs of teaching underprivilliged children with EHD foundation
Internship at Tv channel as assistant reporter
I was spelling bee and city wide chess champion in the 8th and 9th grade.
Speak 5 different languages including French
I have a range of circus skills . lol. juggling, stilt walking, trapeze etc
I paraglide, mountaineer, write poems and do some public speaking and READ in my spare time.

I am also applying to amherst/williams , macallistar, saint olaf, rice, grinell, and a few others. (maybe caltech, used to be my dream school)
Could you please chance me or recommend places i should apply to. And i am an international student and will apply for aid!
Thankyou a bucketload for reading guys !

Good stats and better Physics stats - I think you are good to go, so go online and buy a purple sweatshirt! BUT!!! It’s NU not NW… Get a tatoo, so you will remember.

Go Cats!

gee… thanks bro! that lifted my spirits. go nU!

anybody else please? (this post makes the thread appear on the ‘new threads’ or being discussed boards again, naa)?

holy moly. 275 views, !? come on. bumpity bump

Your application looks really solid to me. With a 1950 your sophomore year, you should be able to get at least a 2100 this year. If you do that, you’ve got a very good chance.

Ok, thanks nuguy2014!
sorry for this but i have to bump the thread, 2 replys isnt cutting it quite fine for me, so bump.

Add to your list MIT, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and Dartmouth. All of those schools claim to be need-blind to internationals.

Does that mean I have a chance?

Sure, if you get your test scores up, you are certainly competitive and it doesn’t hurt to try at all the schools that give financial aid to internationals.

You should definitely add MIT to your list. You have the stats for it. I’d advise you to focus on your interest in physics throughout your application. It also helps if you already know what you want to do, even though you should show them that you’re always willing to try new things. Yale and princeton I’d be somewhat apprehensive about, especially yale. See, us Pakistanis love these two more than harvard for some reason so they get thousands of application from pakistan and therefore it gets very, very competitive. Harvard is a must-put on your list. And dartmouth I wouldn’t be too sure about either, since their need-blind policy is dodgy. Plus, they take few kids all over because it is in essence a small liberal arts college.

Well with what i have read here , especially on the Harvard and Yale acceptance threads, I decided not to bother with any ivy, or even stanford or mit. But ofcourse i would want to go to a good college, the most important thing being the $$ the aid. Thanks for the advice though, maybe I’ll muster some strength to apply . I have yet to finalise my list and write my essay, and I am in the middle of my exams my SATs and swimming. God help me :O

Go for it! Apply to cornell which is the “easiest” Ivy school, but has a great engineering program. Don’t be affraid, they wont eat you! lol

Hmm, thanks swedishguy, i’ll definitely try to add cornell to my list

Is it unfair to bump one last time :S

Ok now with a 2080 SAT

you’ve got fantastic EC’s
SAT is a little low but you might be able to make it up with Essays/subject tests

Is this your junior or senior year?
If its junior, i would take SAT’s one more time
Have you tried ACTs? I thought they were much more logical than SAT’s

I’m only asking because foreign grading systems are sometimes bizarre so standardized tests can sometimes be a better indicator for international students.

I wish I was good at Physics. ='(

You have an excellent shot is all I can say.

Senior year, sadly :frowning: Thanks everyone.

I think NW is not that generous when it comes to giving Aid to financial students… so if you are applying for it ( like me ) … then its a major drawback
