I am a college freshman planning to major in biochem with a film minor taking Calc 2, but I failed my AP Calc Ab exam in senior year. Should I drop down to calc 1?

I understand derivatives and limits, but Im not an expert on them so thats why im considering dropping. Im a biochem major so Im taking chem 108 rn and other hard classes. My parents are worried about my GPA dropping and my brother, who is a chemical engineer, said that Calc 2 isn’t worth it if im not gonna take Calc 3 and beyond. Im not sure what to do so please help!

You are taking Calc 2. Can you drop down?

Yes, you should drop down - if you can without hitting your record. I would re-learn. Who knows, maybe you do ok in Calc 2 but if you don’t, you’ll have to withdraw or worse.

I’m surprised the school didn’t place you in Calc 1.

Good luck.

If Calculus 1 is a course requirement for your major and you did not place out of that class with AP credit or a Math placement exam, then yes you should drop down to Calc 1.
