Oh I looked it up and “mild intellectual disability” is an actual diagnostic term with a code, and should definitely mean accommodations. Can your psychologist write a letter and list the accommodations that would help? That letter can go to the Office of Disabilities and will register you.
Yeah they definitely can!
It sounds like you have a feeling of unfinished business that you want to finish. But we are cautioning you that accommodations are not magic. You still need to do the work, pass tests and exams and so on. Before you try again, it would be good to meet with your psychologist and brainstorm career paths and how to get there. It sounds like you are working part-time. One thing that might help clarify things is doing some volunteer work, if you can afford it.
Have you used your certificate in dietary management at all? My mother was in assisted living and the chef, assistant chef and servers were a big part of the community and seemed happy in their jobs. Do you have any experience like that? What is the work you are doing?
No I haven’t used my certificate yet but I currently work at a grocery store
I can’t pass math without doing open note tests because of my mild intellectual disability. If I tell my advisor because of my poor working memory in my 76 IQ I have borderline intellectual functioning and it’s impossible for me to pass a math or science without open note accommodations. If I tell my adviser about my mild Intellectual disability and show her my psychological report will they allow me to have open note tests for accommodations because I could not finish college because of my disability and how hard it was to pass my classes. Please answer

Your school’s disability office has to be the place to approve an accommodation. Most, but not all classes can honor the accommodation, but the starting point is your school’s office of disability services.
Ok so if I tell the disability service about this accommodation for me because my my mild intellectual disability they will accept the open book accommodation?
You will have to bring your evaluation, if it isn’t too old, and what specific accommodations are recommended in the report. Schools cannot lower academic standards, so it may depend on what the course requirements are as to whether a specific accommodation can be implemented.
You can’t just tell them what accommodations you want. You must present formal testing/evaluation with specific accommodation recommendations to the Office of Disability Services. The testing should be done within the last three years. The Office will review the paperwork and determine what accommodations will be granted. Typically colleges do grant reasonable and workable accommodations.
Note that if accommodations are granted, it is usually up to the student to discuss with each professor the details of how to manage the accommodations.
Not sure anyone can tell you more than that.
I posted this earlier in this thread.
Have you contacted vocational rehabilitation in your state? I would strongly suggest you do this. As I said, if you qualify for their services, they will help you identify careers/vocations that align with your skills and interests. AND they will help you craft a way to get there.
Yes I have. What will vocational rehab do for me again?
Ok I will do that thank you so much!
Vocational rehabilitation will assess your skills and interests…if you are eligible for their services. They will then come up with some vocations that seem to align with your interests and skills. But most important, they will help guide you to achieve those goals.
You need an initial appointment with and you move forward from there.
