There is definitely some “bro” culture here, especially lacrosse and hockey bros. Many times these athletic recruits are not the sharpest knives in the drawer nor very driven students.

Another downside is that many times our day student population of about 100 students (including me) is forgotten. Sit-down dinners (from 6:15-7 every Tuesday and Thursday) only provide seats for a few day students if they want to come. All social events are really catered to boarders’ convenience, so as a day student you need to make friends in the dorms from day one. Still, I think the advantage of being able to see your family every night and sleep in your own bed outweigh the disadvantages.

I’m a current sophomore who is looking into applying to Taft for my junior and senior years! Can you shed some light on how hard the application process is? I’ve been attending a very rigorous and intensive private school since 6th grade, but because my parents filled out my 6th grade application and not me, I am somewhat clueless about the whole process so I would love it if you would share some information with me! In other words, what was your application/acceptance process like? Also, is it particularly difficult to be accepted as a junior? The only reason I may be changing schools is because my family is possibly moving to that area, and I want to continue my private school education! Please let me know, thank you!
