I am an INTROVERT

I took this years ago as part of a work related activity, have also scored the same online. - INTJ

I know some people say its a lot of baloney, but it explains so much about my thought processes and how I relate (or don’t relate ) to others.

Also, it helped me better understand my husband, an INTP. And be more tolerant of a few traits of his that I would have otherwise seen as a fault (the ‘J’ in me!)

I’m an INTP-- did this via work 4 times and no major changes over 20 years. I think my eldest is an INTP (college class '13) and not sure of my daughter, HS class 2015, but she’s “I” for sure, as is my, ex-DH, mother and father. My sister is our only “E”.

Did anyone else notice that many of us are introverted?

I wonder if posting on a public forum is less energy draining than having the same conversations in person in a large group setting. I know I probably would be the mother in the back of the room taking in all the information, making notes, rolling eyes at specific questions asked, etc–watching the clock to determine how much longer I had to sit through the session if I found it not intellectually stimulating enough or provided new information for me.

Most definitely. Probably because we can respond to anything we see, or not. It doesn’t seem rude or weird if we’re just silent. We don’t feel compelled to hold up our end of the conversation, like we do in real life.

I’m an INTP.

frazzled1 noticed this too and it might have something to do with the title of this thread. Perhaps the extroverts don’t think this thread applies to them and are not looking.

^ Thank you for noticing what I said, my fellow ISFJ. (I knew there had to be more of us.)

Or, like me, they hesitate to open a thread that looks like it is going to be the usual extrovert-bashing. Luckily, it is not. :)

BTW, We ENTJs have all sorts of horrible people: Nixon, Thatcher, New Gingrich. Although there are some good ones, also. I definitely feel more kinship with the ENTPs. When I read the Kiersey descriptions, I identify with both the ENTJ and the ENTP. Interesting.

So Newt is reinventing himself in advance of the next Presidential campaign? ;)

Actually, Newt appears as an ENTP on the source I found: celebritytypes. Clearly there is some subjective interpretation going on with some of these lists. What source are you using?

Consolation - it’s not the inner two per se, but the 16 types can be matched to Keirsey’s four temperaments - the Artisans are SPs, the Guardians are SJs, the Idealists are NFs and the Rationals are NTs.

Since I am squarely on the line between INFP and INTP, I’ll claim both types’ famous people as my own :D

INFP - Princess Diana, Shakespeare, James Joyce, Kurt Cobain, Tim Burton, Audrey Hepburn, Albert Camus, my favourite philosopher Kierkegaard, Homer, Hans Christian Anderson, John Milton, Edgar Allen Poe, Virginia Woolf, Sylvia Plath… I think you see where this is going. My field, for the record, is film, and I have an abiding love for theatre, music, and literature.

Wikipedia doesn’t have a very long list of INTPs, just Einstein, Darwin and Thomas Jefferson, and a link to “List of Notable Architects” (Frank Lloyd Wright is an INFP though according to Wiki). The T shows through in my subfield, which is documentary film, and in my other interests - linguistics, computing, physics.

Type and how it’s relevant to your career, anyone?

Those would make excellent companions for my son. :)

The more I read about this, the more I want to read - it’s been years since I last took a long look at all this stuff. Sometimes it’s creepy reading the type descriptions, it’s like looking at yourself in a mirror.

Having three extremely strong preferences and one extremely marginal one makes the reading interesting. I find that when I read about Extraverted Thinking or Extraverted Feeling, the inferior functions of the INFP and INTP respectively, I sort of space out - I truly have no conception of them (paying bills? My roommate handles that. My Te is nonexistent). But when I read about traits generated by the T/F axis, it’s much fuzzier and I find myself going “yes, but…” - for example, I could never see myself as a counsellor (suggested INFP career) because Extraverted Feeling takes so much effort for me, but I know I’ve played that role for friends where Fe doesn’t come into play. The INTP refuses to let the INFP throw out incorrect facts or poor logic in arguments but the INFP refuses to let arguments become pure exercises in logic (very tempting for Ts!)

I just took the test. Please sign me up for ESFJ. So much fun.

This is fun to see.
