I find it kind of interesting that I took an honors class in freshman year of college that required me to take this test (and then we attended a workshop about it). Then I was solidly a INTJ. At some point in the past four years I have switched from moderately T to moderately F, interestingly enough. I think I’ve come to realize how much my decisions are based more on a gut feeling or instinct rather than knowledge. I was probably taking the test putting down what I wanted to be the truth rather than reality.

As much as I know I shouldn’t put much stock in these kinds of assessments, there is something about a test that tells me more about me that I find extremely appealing in spite of this. :)

Add me to intp

Well, in my case, as I think I said earlier, the E and the J are marginal, but the NT is very strong.

In the book Please Understand Me, they assign nicknames to each type. The ENTJ is called The Field Marshall. That definitely describes one major facet of my personality. But it is not the whole me. I think that it can provide valuable insights about the ways that various people tick, but it needs to be kept in perspective.

Classof2015, I think that is a very perceptive comment, that the way that people are perceived may be different from the way they see themselves. Also, people’s CC personas may differ from the real-life versions.

Looking at the list, I thought, “No, impossible!” a couple of times.

Actually, I think there is an element of hokey-ness in the classification. On other other hand, viewing some of my colleagues through this lens has been extremely helpful. It gives me a clue about how they will approach issues, and what kinds of analysis/arguments may be helpful vs. useless with them.

I am an ISTJ!

I think you might be right, Consolation. I think my “I” is less pronounced than it was when I took the test 20 years ago, but my “N” is every bit as strong, maybe more so.

mere–glad to see another ISTJ!

Someone asked about MB types running in families. H is my exact opposite (ENFP vs ISTJ).
I looked up some info on MB/couples. Turns out our pair is “most frequently seen in counseling.” It is considered a bad match. (Explains a lot ;))
Anyway, we see our types among our kids (we have 7 kids–in general, 2 are mom’s type, 4 are dad’s, one is a mixture. This affects how each parent relates to each child–some of them I can read their minds, understand their issues, feel their pain–and H just doesn’t “get” them. But he understands and has more affinity with those of his type, which I don’t relate to as well. I believe personality is mostly genetic. H has 4.5 kids in his camp, vs. my 2.5–and he spent virtually no time with them due to long work hours, whereas I was a SAHM and homeschooled for many years, so it would seem that my personality would be the major influence. The kids were just born with different personalities–I could notice that from day 1.

H took the DISC assessment mentioned above at a conference recently.
Each person had to write their letters (usually 2) on their name tags. Since it was a leadership conference, no surprise that almost everyone had a “D” on their tags.
H went around for several days with “DS” (an impossible combination) on his tag. S was reading the info packet H brought home and pointed out the mistake. We said it stood for “Dumb *****.” IMO, the DISC is just a rehash of the Four Humors. (Choleric, Sanguine, Phlegmatic, Melancholic). H has done several of these personality tests for his work over the years.
On one he came out perfectly neutral on everything (chameleon?) I suppose he lies on the tests to try to get the result he thinks the tester is looking for.

Anyone seen the website with famous people or historical figures of your type? Do you agree that your personality is like those pictured? I pretty much agree with mine.

Wow, you should have never mentioned that! ENTP is just loaded with modern and historical troublemakers, non-conformists, and smart-alecks. Consider this partial list:

Writers: Machiavelli, Voltaire, Socrates, and George Bernard Shaw
Scientists: Richard Feynman, Werner Heisenberg, John von Neumann, Ben Franklin, Leonardo da Vinci (plus techie Steve Wozniak)
Comedians: Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart, Bill Maher, Stephen Fry, and Billy Crystal
Actors: John Cleese, Rowan Atkinson, Gillian Anderson, Salma Hayek and Robert Downey Jr.

I would happily invite this gang to that proverbial all-of-history dinner party. Now if I could only add George Carlin and H.L. Mencken we’d have the greatest curmudgeon-fest ever!

I tested years ago and was almost off the charts E. I don’t get it as while I am very social I have never had a problem being alone in fact I enjoy having time to myself. Am completely comfortable eating out/going to movies/traveling/etc. alone.

I am ESTJ.

Is this listing set up in a particular order? I see the list of 16 personalities listed in a different order and curious. My organizational-and-order-striving traits are irking me to reorg the whole list. Please stop me!

The Field Marshall says you should stop dithering and just add your name to the damned list. Onward!

I read the book "Pleas Understand me " also I was trying to understand myself. I wish they would do this at work but as stated it could be an invasion of privacy. I work in an environment that is probably not for my personality. Not the profession itself, but where I have chosen to work within it.
An example of how thins can be misinterpreted, is that another co worker and I were in a situation where we needed to state our case to a parking lot attendant. she was arguing , so did not step in. Later she made the comment that she did all the arguing. If thought she needed help I would have stepped in, but she was fine. If someone to me I would have thought I was doing a poor job and needed help. She perceived me as unassertive. I am the type that observes and steps in when needed but I don’t prefer to take center stage.

LI–That sounds like a fun group!
Some of mine are Queen Elizabeth II, Hillary Clinton, Angela Merkel, Condoleeza Rice, a bunch of presidents-- Washington, Hoover, Truman, Eisenhower, Nixon, HW Bush, etc.
Warren Buffet, Freud, Pope Benedict XVI, Henry Ford. Not many actors–Anthony Hopkins, Sean Connery, Robert deNiro, Natalie Portman.
Fictional characters are: Darth Vader, Obi Wan Kenobi, Eeyore, Cliff (Cheers), Bruce Wayne, Woody (Toy Story)

I’d rather have a beer with the ENTP’s.

(Funny, H is Bill Clinton’s type, and I’m Hillary’s. Actually, not so funny. . .)

It seems like most of the real decision makers hang out in your crowd, ISTJ.

Well, heck, I’ve got too many scientists and comedians and too few women in my group (ENTP is supposedly two-thirds male). Could I swap you someone for Truman, Sean Connery, and Natalie Portman? ;)

My D2 took the test , and she is the same as I. We suspect, D1 and would be the same as H D2 is at school to do the same thing as me.

My NF is noticing some tension. >.<

The best romantic match for ENTP is supposedly with INTJ or INFJ. Based on the current distribution table we have here, those are pretty good odds for me. I wonder if other message forums have the same distribution ratios? Maybe I should try online dating? :)
