away2school, you haven’t posted since you started this thread?

Trust me, it is easier to deal with people if you learn to fake it. Sometimes I am stuck in a situation where I have to spend hours with just one person, in a confined situation. It was uncomfortable at first, until I learned how to fake it. Now I figure out how to steer people to things that interest them…and interest me too. Win/win. I don’t have to listen to hours of people droning on about things that bore me if I can figure out what interests we have in common. Then if all else fails, I whip out the newspaper.

I agree, though. Animals are awesome. So sweet, undemanding, and full of love.

I suspect that INFP is an odd profile for a physical scientist. I was going to hypothesize that the J’s and the P’s split on their views, but there seem to be so few P’s, relatively speaking, that the statistics are no good. We might get somewhere on the T/F split.

QuantMech - I can see how an INFP might be a physical scientist, though. Change a couple of things in my life, and I could easily have gone to graduate school in physics instead. The preference for mental and theoretical stimulation (N) over external stimulation, and for relatively contemplative activity (I) seem to fit well. If your F is marginal, then the INTP preference for absolute systems probably kicks in too.

Wow, I get to claim a category all for myself! I’m ENTP, borderline E (+1 over neutral); my younger son is INTP.

Interesting comment, pelicularities, post #86. In my case, the F edges out T, but not by a whole lot.

I’ve never taken the Meyers-Briggs personality test. It sounds like these classifications (INTJ, etc.) are all self-reported?

Anyone know if there is any correlation of MB personality type within a family – i.e., might it be genetically influenced? Or nurture influenced?

LI is our only extrovert so far. Not a surprise. :p

They are self-reported, classof2015, but you can take the test online easily.

Not true, poetgrl - we have:
ENTJ - cobrat, noimagination, Consolation

Of course extroverts would be less inclined to read a thread entitled, “I am an INTROVERT,” too.

I’m here for the popcorn. ;)

I am almost an ENTP, LoremIpsum. I wavered, but I guess I just couldn’t take the indecision. :D

So come over to my side, Consolation; I won’t judge you. ;)

Hah!

Maybe we could get the thread title changed to Are you an Introvert or an Extrovert

well… they give you a bunch of questions about how you would act in a given situation and what type of things you like to do in your free time and such. Then the computer program puts it all together.

I took it as part of onboarding for employment… and I also took the DiSC assessment, which breaks it down into these:

then depending on where you are on each continuum, it gives you like 4-5 adjectives to describe you for each letter.

I claimed to be an ISTJ in post #16!

Over 10 years ago, my former employer brought consultants in to figure out how to get everyone to work better together. They gave us all M-B and shared results with the entire company. In cleaning out papers a few weeks ago, I came across the grid they prepared. I somehow think these days that might be considered an invasion of privacy.

I have a friend who has a PhD in something management-related, and both teaches at a university and has a private career counselling practice. She told me that NTs are something like 6% of the population, but 90% of her practice.

It is my understanding, perhaps faulty, that the inner two items are considered to be one’s core type, although people seem to fixate on this I vs E thing.

I first did MB in the context of a board I served on. We all did the test and mailed it in; at the annual retreat we were given our types and we discussed the differences in the way various types of people liked to address things, receive information, work together, arrive at conclusions, etc. I found it tremendously illuminating.

thanks poetgrl and socceryguy315 – the reason I asked is that I didn’t think the self-reported M-B identities always matched people’s CC identities. Which means their self-reported identity may be at odds with their identity as perceived by others.

Right. That makes sense.

They aren’t completely accurate, though, anyway. I am only 1 point over for an introvert. And I think one other is very close.

I only remember because one of my kids had to give it to us for a class, recently, and we discussed this.
