Okay. So I go to a public school in New York. I’m so nervous that I’m not going to get in anywhere and I’m kind of confused as to why my posting got a response that was very hurtful. Here are my schools, and if you’re going to be mean about it just don’t respond. Because I’m nervous enough as it is. Don’t judge the schools I"m applying to just because you haven’t heard of them or whatever. I’m just looking for honestly, not cruelty.

Northeastern
Ursinus
Muhlenberg
SUNY Oneonta, Oswego, Plattsburgh, Cortland
American
McDaniel
Hartwick
My Dad went to Brown but I decided not to apply there because it wouldn’t be the best place for me… I would have though I loved it when I visited.

White female
Documented Learning disability
Don’t do rank…Well don’t know mine.
GPA: 3.1
Not incredibly proud of SAT score
Took ACT: didn’t do so well

ECs:
Model UN 9th grade, now on leadership board
NCSY (youth group) Since middle school, Leadership board for the past 2 years
Tried soccer, got too involved in MUN
GSA club–>member
Student Movement Against Cancer–>member
Live Poets Society–>member
Theater club since last year, Leadership board for past 2 years, last year I was the only junior
Model UN award for best delegate in a conference last year

I know it may not look like I have a lot to offer, but I do! I’m just a nervous senior trying to figure out if she will go to college! I don’t want criticism! I can’t change my grades, but I’m going to this semester. I’m trying…I really am…I comment on yours please don’t turn me away!

I think you don’t have much to worry about I don’t know about those schools, but your EC’s look nice and you have some good leadership positions. Sounds like Model UN is a “strong” point of yours. I’m sure if you work hard on your SAT scores and ACT scores you’ll do well Depending on your current scores (which we don’t know), I bet you’ll get into a good school anyways.

If you post what classes you’re in (and have taken), that might help other CC users.

Well… Okay.
Please don’t judge me based on my test scores…I’m horrible at tests. Really. I hate them.
The first time I got below 1000 and the second time I broke it. On the ACT, which I only took once, I got like I think a 20? Please don’t judge me…I’m really nervous as it is.

I don’t take any APs, because my school doesn’t really offer that many besides standard AP Bio and Chem, Physics, Spanish, and Calc.

By the way, thank you for not having the same reaction as the other person. =)

The thing is, yes I started off weak in high school but throughout the years, I went up. I was working on a play first semester last year with 4+ hours of rehearsal everyday after school and managed to get all Bs and one C in my classes. I’ve only been going up every year. Freshman year was difficult, and I didn’t pass one class so I had to repeat Alg1.

Sr Year classes
Alg2
Gettysburg (A history class where we’re gong to Gettysburg this week)
Topics in Biochemistry for science…Tried for AP Bio
Advanced Theater Workshop/Senior Symposium for english (small teacher-selected class of 8 students)
Production class-- We’re doing Grease, I’m Jan, a supporting role

Sounds like you like acting? Me too! A lot of colleges like a challenging schedule: usually math, science, english, social studies, foreign language, and an elective or two. Many colleges require at least 2 years of a foreign language; did you take any foreign language classes?

I don’t know the exact numbers for you schools, but research them and look at their SATs (mean, upper quartile, lower quartile). You want to be in the upperquaritle, considering that your ECs are I’d say a little above average for your schools. GPA looks average. SATs are the deciding factor. Looks tough, but chances are I think you’ll be accepted to at least some of your schools.

hey so i would say that you have a very decent shot at every SUNY school you applied to, especially to Oswego so don’t sweat it. I feel that although your SAT scores may not be too high for some of your schools, I know that schools such as American and Northeastern look far beyond just scores. Have you looked at some schools that are SAT optional such as Holy Cross because with your good EC’s and decent GPA, you will be a strong candidate for some of those schools.

I did! I took Spanish for 3 years, and now theres this spanish elective class which I’m taking next semester which is just a conversational class.

My teacher from last year has given me the option of sitting in on the AP class, which I should actually pursue because thatd be an interesting experience! =)

Could you actually tell me what you think of my chances at those schools though? You don’t have to…But I’d appreciate it!

Oh…I also have poetry on the NYPL website… =)

Thanks, just glad I could help. I believe in accepting people for who they are, unlike RALec114. Anyway, is there anyone to retake SAts? Or you could just say you have an unkown disability and get accepted into Harvard. Its worth a shot!

haha I actually thought about Harvard for like a nano second…But maybe I’ll try to get into Yale graduate school for theater because I could do realllly well in college and then…Yeah :)

hey at least you know about this stuff now. I’m experiencing so much regret and everything because of my grades. If i had done well I think I’d have such a better chance at getting into some other schools…OH well. sigh and no age discrimination here! :)

aww I’m sorry >.< that’s why I plan (and replan) and visit this site… so I have no regrets over the choices I have. I don’t want to think “I wish I studied harder” or “I wish I did that…” once I get into senior year.

I’m simply here to give a realistic prediction of your chances along with advice - that’s the point of this forum. There is no chance at harvard.

Another thing - write a heartfelt essay, I’d mention your disability and how you overcame it etc. It ccould make a very strong essay, if done wisely.

Lawdertrain I suggest you choose another site to ■■■■■ in. You shot down the thread starter’s first thread saying that she isn’t even worth chancing, and now you are telling her to apply to harvard. Not only that, but you even made up SAT scores in your own chance thread. 625 in CR? Believable.

:) its all good. I’m not thinking Harvard. I’m actually thinking since I’m very interested in theater, movies, and the whole package (special F/X, acting, etc.) maybe I’ll go to Cali for grad. school… Or Yale…you never know.
