I am in 7th Grade and got a C on my report card In pre algebra

Will this hurt my chances of getting into Harvard? Because next year In am in algebra (if I do well on MCAS, then geometry then finally calculus) but because of this I may not get into calculus I want to go into Harvard not just for the schools name but because I would be the first person on my dads side to attend college. What Can I do?

middle school doesn’t matter at all…no one not in high school should ever go on college confidential. period.

It shouldn’t affect anything. Colleges don’t really care about anything except 9th-12th grade (unless you did something amazing before that). Just make sure that when you get to those grades, you take plenty of AP/IB classes, get decent grades, and are involved in extracurriculars and service. But remember that it’s extremely difficult to get into Harvard, and you shouldn’t be too devastated if you don’t get accepted; there are plenty of other great schools out there. Good luck!

It won’t affect you at all (unless you’re planning to apply to a Magnet school or something).

They shouldn’t even be able to see most/all of your middle school grades. I think mine did include algebra and geometry and Latin I, since those were “high school courses,” but literally no other courses from my middle school even appeared, or could appear, on the transcript I sent to colleges.

First of all, planning to go to Harvard when you are in the 7th grade is a bit silly.
EVERYONE would like to go to Harvard.
You have no high school record, no SAT scores, etc.
It would be like a kid on the 7th grade basketball team saying he wants to play in the NBA.

Just do the best you can, study hard, and eventually it will become clear where you stand in the college selection process.

It may be Harvard. It may be Ohio State. It may be XYZ Community College.

You shouldn’t be worrying about such things in the 7th grade, in any case. You should be worrying about going to the movies with your friends, and perhaps eventually kissing your first boy/girl. It is way too soon to start stressing out about going to college.

This reminds me of those parents who fret that their kid won’t get into Harvard because they didn’t get into their desired private nursery school.

In any case, no one thing is going to keep a person out of Harvard. But with a 10% acceptance rates, even if you do turn out to be a top student, it will still be doubtful you will ever get into Harvard. No harm in pursuing this dream, but there are plenty of other great colleges besides Harvard.

haha 7th grade… r u joking? I’m pretty sure I didn’t know what college was till about 10th grade… go out and have fun…theres ambitious, and then there’s socially weird and college obsessed…

Perhaps you should start looking at a few safety schools. Harvard may now be out of reach!

@Floridadad, gstransfer, I don’t think we need to worry too much about the OP, since he/she doesn’t seem particularly obsessed. When I was that age, not knowing anything about the college admissions process, I had some dumb questions, too. If I’d thought to ask them, I would’ve gotten the correct answers, instead of holding silly/nerve-wracking-on-the-rare-occasions-I-did-think-about-college beliefs for longer than was necessary. If OP starts coming back asking how to get in, I too will get on my you’re-too-young-go-away soap box. But for now probably one of his/her peers was like you got a C! You’ll never go to Harvard now! (That’s an admittedly weird variation of “haha you’re never going to get into college now,” but at least the latter was common among the nerds at my middle school.) Now OP knows better.

@cottonmather, gstransfer, Don’t be mean, kids are silly.

LOL XD

I’m sorry, but it’s hilarious how some CC’ers panic over nothing. I used to be like that as well (hence my username).

just bring down the stress and pressure on yourself, and try your best to get good grades. then leave your CC account inactive and come back to us freshmen year ;)
