I am in shock-orlando terror attack

Saw this on the news and needed to share it.A song that was quickly written and recorded called Pulse by Eli Lieb & Brandon Skeie. I found it to be an extremely beautiful song. (The version on the news had pictures of the victims as the video so I was a sobbing mess by the end.)

@romanigypsyeyes That song brought me to tears.
‘I shouldn’t have to change who I am to be count as human… Feel my pulse.’

I attended a vigil today that was hosted by my university. They read the names of the victims out loud and we took some time to reflect. Initially, I was not going to go because I am not good with public displays of emotion, but one of the graduate students in my research group sent out an email and most of the lab went together. I feel lucky to work with a supportive and kind group (they are great in lots of ways, this is certainly not an outlier!).

I am also really impressed by how there is a lot of coverage of the victims. As a science student, it never fails to amaze me how complex we are as humans, biologically speaking. So many things come together for us to be reading each other’s thoughts right now - in the moment I type these very words, countless neurons are firing, allowing my brain to process and integrate information, and string together what I hope are coherent sentences. Our cells are probably doing all kinds of things, such as cell respiration, transcription, and probably other subtle, clever processes that we haven’t deciphered yet, all to make us functional. And not only are we ‘functional’, but we are also unique and different. It’s really beautiful, and it’s really tragic that all of the beauty in every single victim was extinguished, so, so quickly. I hope they live on in other worlds, but we should forever remember them in this one.

What a beautiful song.

The LGBT+ anthem is born. How beautiful.

CNN has breaking news that the FBI issues bulletins to orlando area gay clubs. I wonder what they know?

The media has this down to a science. They’re vultures, actually.

“Imagine there could be civil cases form victims families as well.”

Anything is possible, but a civil case against someone who doesn’t have a lot of money seems hardly worth it.

Don’t stop at vigils please. Do more. Make sure the people making laws know how you feel. It won’t stop mass murders but it will make a difference. I am taking my own advice believe me. I am busy as heck but I am not letting this go.

Probaby true, pg, but someone might sue for any potential income to be sure no fool makes the g-d awful consideration of buying the rights to her story.

If anyone is on Twitter, check out a series of tweets from Neil deGrasse Tyson (@neiltyson), in order of posting. OMG.

Speaking of lawsuits - some of the Newton families are suing the manufacturer of the AR-15 (same gun used in Orlando) and for the first time, the suit has not been immediately dismissed. We’ll see how far it goes.

I need to get a twitter account.

The family of the only American woman killed in the Paris attacks is suing Google, Facebook and Twitter for not adequately monitoring the use of their sites by ISIS. Interesting cause of action. Google, Facebook and Twitter delete certain accounts all the time. Maybe they do need to do a better job of monitoring and deleting ISIS accounts, radical Islamist accounts and accounts that circulate ISIS videos.

Really really really bad stuff happened. The perpetrators expressly profess their allegiance to ISIS, radical Islam, individual imam’s who vocally and by other electronic methods say in no uncertain terms that our culture and it’s people must be destroyed.

Followers act on this message…they kill people.

But…it’s Google, Facebook, Twitter, the NRA, gun manufacturers and eventually our own racists and crazy Christian right communal faults.

It must be very frustrating to be a Jihadist these days…you just can’t get credit for your work…no matter how loud you shout the name of your cause from the proverbial mountain tops.

The Westboro Baptist Church has announced they are coming to Orlando to protest at the victim’s funerals. Emotions are still very raw in Orlando. I think they may be under estimating the situation they will be stepping into.

A call to form a human wall between the mourners and Fraudboro Church has already gone out. I do not doubt for a second that there will be hundreds, if not thousands, of people to protect the friends and families from that scum.

They threatened to come to SC last year , but never showed after the Patriot Guard and other motorcycle clubs also planned to form a wall. Hopefully, they’ll leave those poor families alone to grieve .

'There was plenty of news about the guy that was headed to the LA gay pride parade, in this thread and elsewhere. It has nothing to do with his name. The fact that the coverage of all the sad events in Orlando took up more of the news reports has nothing to do with his name."

There were reports initially when there was speculation that this might have been related to the Orlando shooting. If the guys name had been one assumed to be Moslem, it would not have disappeared the way this story has. It has been several days, and I have seen nothing about the guy, what his motives were, the guy admitted he was going to the Pride March yet there doesn’t seem to be any claim he was obviously a terrorist…which if he had been Moslem, would have been the assumption.

@CaucAsianDad I would bet heavily against their even showing up. They made the same threat about Newtown and after heavy pushback on social media (including Anonymous publishing their personal contact info), they cancelled. Courage isn’t one of their strong suits.
