I bet I get 6 a day now. I never pick up, but am constantly having to clear out them out as my phone says “missed call” until I do. I was getting them on my cell, but not as much lately. Anybody else seen a rise in these?
I’m sick of them too…and nomorobo doesn’t work here.
I just ignore them all and delete at the end of the day.
Yes! Me too. I now keep my phone on “do not disturb” and have it set up for my address book to by pass the DND. It’s the only thing keeping me sane since blocking the numbers and the Do Not Call list do nothing.
We get a lot more of these, too. Nomorobo blocks many of them after the first ring, but many other calls get through because they are spoofing local (and some not-local) phone numbers.
I never pick up the landline phone any more if I don’t recognize the number; we let the answering machine pick up (it’s an older phone with a digital answering machine).
Me too!! And with both parents having medical issues I often answer since therapists and medical folks often call me from cell phones so I don’t recognize the number.
Our home phone gets a lot of spoofed numbers, making it look like it’s a local call.
“Businesses” that use this technology are lower than low.
I got a call that my Windows license was expiring and my computer would be shut down unless I called the toll free number and paid for a new license. :))
Me too. It comes and goes. It picked up a couple of weeks ago. Now it’s like 15-20 calls a day. I used to block but it stops only a few. I just delete. Some of them even leave a voice mail.
I keep a landline partly so I don’t have to give out my cellphone and at the moment the only spam calls I get are from something that gets identified as AT&T spam! Sadly the landline is not a VOIP soo nomorobo doesn’t work on it here
I’ve never heard of nomorobo.
We have local elections coming up so we’re back to political polls and begging. I answered one call, was willing to answer a few questions, but then every question became a variation of the one before. 10 or 15 questions and more to come but I hung up.
Nomorobo is an app that blocks robo calls. It blocks most of the spam calls I was getting. Once in a blue moon, one gets through, but not many. My nomorobo blocks the spoofed numbers as well. I’m pretty happy with it.
Thanks @Nrdsb4 , so only for cellphones then.
No it’s not just for cellphones. https://www.nomorobo.com/. But it doesn’t work for all carriers.
Yes, it’s extremely annoying. Most of these calls are blocked by Nomorobo but they still ring once, many spoofed numbers are not blocked and some legit numbers are blocked too, like ARC calling to pick up donations.
^^^^^I haven’t had that experience. I don’t get one rings. Almost NONE of the spam calls get through to me, even spoofed ones. Maybe I"m just special.
Yes, we are getting a ton more as well. And most use a local exchange. So annoying.
I disconnected the landline & ported the old landline number to Google voice. (Free service, except for a one-time charge of about $20 to port the number). If the caller leaves a message, I’ll get a text & an email with a transcription. If they don’t… that’s their problem. If I get a call to my cell phone from an unrecognized number. I generally just refuse the call and let it go to voicemail.
I thought Rachel from cardmember services was gone…but no…she is back.
I get annoyed by the calls on my cell phone…with voice mails left, about my health insurance inquiry. What inquiry? I’m on Medicare and have made no inquiries…and certainly would not have given out my cell phone numbers.
Spammers…
Wow, great! I’m going to try the app.
Related question—who has a good reverse phone lookup (for free) website or app? I keep getting calls from a # I am pretty sure is spam so have it flagged but I have been having trouble trying to look it up (though have found its using some carrier I have never heard of and is probably voip called onvoy. Help please
