I am lost. I want to go to a UC but I feel like my past has alreaady killed this possibility.

Hi. i am currently going to become a junior in high school. and i messed up my first two years. i had low ggrades and was in trouble alot to the point of being arrested two times and being DAEP for a 3/4 of a school year. when i went to DAEP i came in with the mind of Self improvement, fix my patches and my grades began getting higher to reaching all a’s in there. i bought the big blue book to pass the SAT. and plan to take it october. also the ACT.

My stats are:
GPA: I talked to my counselor and he told me that for being in DAEP for too long i dont have one. but the last time (9th) was 2.8
EC: BAND sax (i didnt care for it much bc i didnt want to play the sax i wanted to play percussion)
VOL: had the plan to volunteer in the library and the animal shelter but it didnt go through :frowning:
i plan to major in marine biology.

AM i able to at least be considered in any UC? (especially Davis and SD?)

p.s. i plan to take ALL APS this year and get in a club.
also transfer to state here and get all A’s in my classes.

If you are unable to be admitted as a frosh, you can attend a community college, do well there, and then transfer to a UC as a junior.

Your best chance to get into a UC would be attending a community college for 2 years, get competitive grades and do TAG (Transfer Admission Guarantee) to one of the 6 UC’s (UCM/UCR/UCSC/UCI/UCD/UCSB).

UC’s only used 10-11th grades for their GPA calculation:

You need a minimum UC GPA of 3.0 (in-state) or 3.4 (OOS) to apply and even at that minimum, your chances are low for an acceptance even at UC Merced where the average UC GPA was 3.67. It is great that you want to turn things around and make school a priority. Remember there are many different paths to achieve your goal. Good Luck.

thanks. i plan to go to a cc and be in the military thanks.

There are lots of good colleges within your reach. At this stage, it is wise to keep an open mind explore options in the coming years. A CC may be the the right path for you but, perhaps you’ll be directly admitted to a UC, CSU or a private school.

Be sure to meet the a-g requirements with a C or better.

I’d add that you should be careful not to overload your schedule next year. You need to show - improvement but, it’s got to be manageable. 2 APs is probably plenty.

Good luck…

It appears you have a good hardship/adversity story to tell on the essay portion of the UC application. UCs love those stories. You should also work hard in your junior year to get the best grades possible, hopefully 4.0+, and work hard to achieve a good SAT or ACT score, say around 2100 for SAT and 30+ for ACT. Otherwise as stated above, cc is a good alternative to improve in order to transfer to a UC

thanks.

If you spend your junior year really geeting business done, you could end up with a mid to high 3 (3.4-3.6) possibly. Depends on how your high school is set up. then you would need to really study for that SAT/ACT.

If you get serious and do these things, you could be considered at bottom tier UCs.
-UC Merced
-UC Riverside
-UC Santa Cruz

If you’re serious about the military, think about CSU ROTC Programs

Be very careful about overloading yourself this year. This isn’t a comment about your skills/intelligence. An all AP schedule is a tremendous amount of work for anyone. Seriously, the upside is pretty limited and you’ll be miserable. Getting Cs and Ds in these classes will really upend your plans.

With a more modest schedule and a 3.5 to 3.7 GPA this year, you’ll stand a better chance of admission into a UC.

Id also encourage you to open your mind to CSUs -

Good luck

The military made me a much better student. If you want to do it, I recommend going in as enlisted for short contract then going back to college. While you’re in you can still take community college classes or CLEP. It will seem like a piece of cake.

UCs don’t take CLEP scores but CSUs do. You can take online CC classes while enlisted.
