I am not a parent but... Britain

Britain elections!!!
Anyone excited?

The House of Lords needs to have more functions… AP Gov knowledge, haha

The Lords should be completely eradicated.

Britain’s system is set up for a single house because their political leader sits in Commons and sovereignty is invested in the monarch. Our system vests sovereignty in the President and that person doesn’t sit in the legislature. A 2 house system in Britain was a way for the hereditary arsewipes to control society. Again, since the PM and the cabinet sit in Commons there is no reason for a 2nd legislative house. They don’t have states and the pieces of Britain - Scotland, Wales, N. Ireland - have their own parliaments.

The house of Lords should be abolished and replaced with a House of Representatives determined by Proportional Representation.

The fact that David Cameron is about to become Prime Minister of the country I have grown up in disgusts me. I am glad to be moving to the USA in 3 months.

Yes, proportional representation for the Lib Dems.
No, I do not think that the Lords should be abolished! Their main function of slowing the legislation process is needed in a democratic system.

This was certainly an interesting electon! It was just bizarre though that the BBC was giving so much air coverage to the bookmaking odds as part of election coverage!

There seem to have been a LOT of problems with voting. The rules there seemed odd too. Paper ballots? You can vote if you have a paper ballot in your hand by 10 pm, but not if you are in line inside the polling place but haven’t yet gotten a paper ballot. Separate lines for students and residents in Sheffield–with the residents in and out in 10 minutes and students standing in line for hours and not getting a chance to vote?

It was like our “hanging chad” mess in Gore v. Bush.

@viktorialucas, there would still be 2 houses if the Lords was abolished.
