Is there anyway that I can make myself look better outside of my SAT and ACT scores.
For some reason people at my school who I like help everyday and they are like dude ur like a freakin genuis, they get higher scores than me on my ACT and SAT tests.

Sophmore year I got a 201 Junior year 187 PSAT, SAT 1890, Act 28 (twice).

I know I am better than my scores and dont just tell me practice the tests b/c i dont have the time to do so. My schedule is filled from 6 till 8 everyday.and even longer during school.

some people just aren’t great test takers… i’m sure if you’re getting straight A’s in the toughest classes it will shed a more positive light upon you than a good SAT score…

Well marchballer I remember seeing you in the chances forum, and you were interested in MIT. Keyword: supplemental materials. Be creative and send your whole life (not literally of course) in; maybe show your personal growth and use it as a hook.

Yeah I used to look into MIT but I doubt ima get in b/c of my SAT scores 1320 aight gonna cut it. So ima try Ga Tech and Rice and UTexas along with my state school LSU and maybe a Vandy and WUSTL thrown in.

seriously prepping is the only way to do well. and lets face it, you can have a rec from the president but if ur scores are worthless ur not getting in to any top college…theres no two ways about it. just go buy one of those princeton review or college board prep books at the book store and take it with you whereever you go. this way whenever you have a moment u can crack it open, plus no one will bother u

alright a 1320 (math and verbal) is not a worthless score… i for one would take a 1100 with a nice letter of rec from the president than a 1600…

ok to be realistic though your chances at MIT are slim indeed and I think it is good you are realizing that…

To get into MIT with those scores you are going to need to have some very good independent studies/ECs/essays/recs. But, like someone else mentioned, a much easier way out would be to study like hell and retake the tests. You don’t need much time to do so either. I do about 5 problems a night from each section, and if you can’t do that just do 5 problems a night from one section. Cram studying is not very helpful. The best way is to do a little bit every day to keep your brain active. If you truly have a high GPA and are smart, I think you can overcome your weaker test-taking problem.
