<p>“California is not the whole representation of the United States,” I have constantly reminded myself. Having stayed in Los Angeles for all the years after my family moved to America, I was growing anxious to explore something new and “American”: less urban setting, different people, and east coast of the United States. However, I did not have the luxury to do this because of financial difficulties. Facing the biggest transition of my life, I find this moment a great opportunity to quench my curiosity.
Having gone to small private schools for many years, I learned many advantages of small liberal arts college: its flexibility, sense of community, and collaboration between the faculty and students.
I plan to major in economics, which is undoubtedly the strongest point of Colby College. In times like this when economic crisis is spreading globally, I find Mayflower Hill to be the suitable place to analyze the root of the problem and contribute myself to fixing it permanently. Particular courses such as “Made in China,” will unquestionably provide an answer to my question of how China has detached itself from the “Third World” and is ferociously pacing toward becoming the global leader in such time of recession.
Moreover, Colby College’s effort to achieve diversity within the campus gives me the impression of how much this institution cares about the international students who are often overlooked in sizable universities. Considering all the facets of this school, I simply can not wait to be walking down The Miler Steps to listen to a welcome speech to Colby College.</p>
