I AM SAM books

Tonight I found my set of I AM SAM books that a colleague gave me many years ago.
I used them with both of my kids and then many of my clients kids over the years.
So tonight my H remembered them and we introduced them to our 5 year old G’Son.
He loved them and it made me wonder if any of you have them, used them or know about them.

Have not used them, but the BOB books were awesome. Probably very similar. Helped my oldest start to read at two, they were so easy and basic.

Mat sat. Sam sat. Mat sat on Sam.

We gad the Bob books, too. I don’t remember I AM SAM.

BOB books here too. I recommend them to everyone I know who has an emerging reader.

I didn’t know about those book! I think I still have “Go, Dog, Go” memorized, though. That’s how my middle kid learned to read.

Used BOB books, here. I remember them fondly.

see sam sit! last book i read that I enjoyed.

if I remember correctly (1st grade) the books were yellow and black covers. (paperback, not even a coated cover…just thicker paper)

OP are the I Am Sam books and BOB books like the early 60’s See Dick and Jane readers?

@MaineLonghorn - me too! Loved Go Dog Go. I actually use it to teach refugees and find it to be successful with reading speed, simple words and simple concepts for those who have never had any form of education in their homeland. Up, down, big, small, all read with a fun rhythm, etc.

Go Dog Go was the first book for my kids, too. And Green Eggs And Ham not far behind. (That’s what I thought the OP meant by I AM SAM, but apparently not.)

I hated Dick and Jane when I was six, and I still do.

My younger sister had the Sam books. I think Sam is a snake. This would have been about 1970. I kept my childrens’ Go Dogs Go book. “Do you like my hat?” LOL

It’s a dog party!

Sam is a Lion. These were published in1971. A retired psychologist who tested and worked with
children gave me the set years ago.
Grandson is visiting and his mom mentioned he is not interested in reading. He just turned 5.
I pulled the books out and he was reading or recognizing the words within minutes.
They are very rewarding to kids.
I do not know the BOB books but sounds as if they are similar.

I had the Bob books, but both my kids were sight readers. The oldest figured it out before he was 3 by asking what everything said. The younger one waited until he was in 2nd grade and went from struggling to Harry Potter overnight.

It’s so fun watching that reading light bulb click on. Opens up a whole new world!

And you are never too old to become a reader- H’s niece got bit by the bug when she was 23 years old. Before the bug bit, she never understood our family because we always carried books with us on trips. After the bug bit her, she reads everything. She just had a baby and I sent her the Good Dog, Carl board books. No words but good for story telling.

We loved Carl!

I had to go look. Sis is the snake. Matt the rat was my favorite character. Our children did a reading program that used Pole and Vole with books and cds.
