I attend Alternative High School 2.5GPA | 35 ACT | No EC's/Anything Special -- Advice

Heavens, I don’t know how I found my self in this situation.

But none the less, I don’t know what I am going to go when I apply for University. I attend some Alternative High School. My GPA is like 2.5, possibly lower. I did well on the ACT, and feel I am an advanced student. However, my current standing in academia says otherwise…

Stats:

GPA - 2.5 [Possibly Lower]
ACT - 35
EC’s - Wind Symphony for 3 years
eBay PowerSeller | Business of 120K Annually @ 3 Years
Work/Assistance for The Michigan Institute of Cryonics
Played in some European Youth Symphony in Romania

AP’s - AP Calc AB
AP Bio.
AP Chem.
AP Physics B
AP Physics C

Note: I got grades of like D’s and F’s in those classes, despite getting two 4’s and the rest 5’s. I am just really fond of the way the Western World learns.

I suppose as my family and myself, operating several successful on and offline business, had the need to follow the rigid path of current academia, getting into a good university, and landing that high-paying, dream job.

Of course, my family as taught me, “Never work for money, allow money to work for you - it never tires.” I thus have no desire to go to University, amass a degree, and market myself to the work force. I wish to research or teach, and thus feel I am more suitable for a research based University.

My current passion in life is to pursue a degree in a field such as Biological Engineering or Genetic Engineering. I have always loved to build, operate, improve and enable. Ever since I was adolescent youth, I would always wonder why we would always find ways improve what they create… but never noticed such improvements in man.

I feel my life is best suited in the emerging technology of genomics: research, and the commercialization of my work. As I have said before, “Its time to enable what we are, improve, and transcend.”

I’m located in Michigan, so I have my eyes on University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
We’ll see…

I’d say because of ure GPA Ann arbor is out of the question (Unless you REALLY sell yourself with those essays).

Just in case, apply to a wide broad of universities, since you definitely have a special case.

best of luck

I suggest you try posting and asking for school choices on the Parents forum. Those parents know the schools inside and out and are always looking to be helpful. However, do that only if you really are looking for good constructive advice and realistic options, not if you are just looking for validation.

w00t go blue baby!

and just apply who knows what will happen

Ya I wouldn’t say Michigan is completely out of the question, but it will be tough. That said, that business will be pretty darn impressive to any admissions board. Sell yourself big time in those essays and just give it a shot. Apply a lot of places, given your unusual situation you may get lucky somewhere.

Personally, if I had that business going I would not be worrying about 50 hour weeks and a 50k starting salary :)

Wow your stats are very interesting.
You must really hate your school…

maybe try community college for a year or two and then try to transfer to michigan.
i think that would be the best option because getting in now seems like it would be a stretch for you.

I think what colleges will think when they see a 35 ACT and a low GPA is that you are a smart person who didn’t apply himself at all. That is not attractive to them and I don’t think you’ll get into Michigan. However, I could be wrong.

If only you did as well in your classes as in tests, you could probably get into really good schools…but those ap scores and the ACT can only help you, just apply to many different places…(I need that ACT score lol)

Even though your GPA is low I know a lot of people that got into a lot of universities with a low GPA but your ACT score out beats them so apply to schools you like you never know if you don’t try. Wish I had a 35 ACT.
