I’m an Amazon Prime member and know I have access to free books. How do I do that so it downloads on my kindle?
I’ve gone to the website and the page (prime reading) where you pick free books . I chose one and thought it would download somewhere on the kindle. But I can’t find it, nor am I sure I’m navigating properly. I’m getting really frustrated.
There aren’t many free books.
Did you subscribe to Kindle Unlimited? When I look at Prime Reading I see that the books shown are under Kindle Unlimited which is an additional subscription $11.99 a month. The site shows a buy price if you don’t have Unlimted.
There are a few First Reads that are free every month. Did you select one of those?
After you make a selection be sure to click borrow if you have Unlimited or add to cart or buy now if you don’t.
Another way to read free books is through your library. If you have a library card you can sign up to the Libby app and read library books on your Kindle. That is how I read most of my books on Kindle.
Ok, I think I figured it out. Instead of going to my iPad and the Amazon prime reading page, I can access it directly from my kindle. I still don’t understand when I chose it from the website on my iPad, it wouldn’t load it on the kindle? It’s connected to WiFi.
I’m going to have a friend help me navigate the library ebook system. Only thing about that is sometimes it takes me more than 3 weeks to read a book if I’m busy.
If you put your Kindle on airplane mode you can take as long as you need. It will stay on your Kindle until you reconnect to WiFi even if the status says it was returned to the library.
If you download a book (at a time) from Libby and then put your kindle on airplane mode the book will stay on your kindle until you’re done reading it - even if long past the due date. I always put my kindle on mode after downloading a book because the battery lasts so much longer
Also when I choose a book from the Libby app and chose to download to kindle, I put my kindle on wifi and need to be in wifi! And it seems to take a few mins for the book to actually show up in my kindle library - it’s not instant.
My kindle paperwhite is a few years old so if my info is outdated someone can tell me I’m wrong
It’s been ages since I messed with the setting, but IIRC somewhere in your Amazon profile you can set the kindle download default to a specific kindle app or kindle device. Then if your kindle wifi is on, the books should automatically download.
Even with my default set to my kindle paper white, it’s kind of hit or miss and sometimes I have to force a sync or redownload, or wait several minutes. My previous kindles (3-4 over the past 15 years) were all much better at immediately doing the download. I’m not sure if my current one is flaky or if Amazon made the syncs/downloads more lazy, e.g. longer polling time for the auto sync to increase battery life.
I get most of my freebie ebooks from the library. But once a month I take advantage of Prime perk to download a free book. They are usually new authors, nothing special (usually list price around $5). But it’s nice to have some extra books for travel, beach etc.
