Thanks everyone. You’ve very quickly ruined my good feelings about getting my daughter a nice gift. This is why CC is dying.
I put in the other thread that I started that if I were to buy a high end bad, I would love a Goyard. They aren’t as ubiquitous as the LV never full which I would compare it to.
I couldn’t care one bit what other people on CC or IRL think.
@sabaray I love that you bought your D a Goyard. What a lovely gift and she will love it for a long time. And think of you I am sure every day as she carries a bag she might not spurge on. .
I’m not sure why people are fixated on the Goyard. There are lots of very expensive bags out there. And lots of people who buy and covet them.
Sorry if there are typos. I hate spell check and my own bad spelling abilities
@sabaray I think your gift for your daughter is really nice.
All I wanted to know is if the amazon bags look similar. I’m quite sure they are not as well made…or nice.
A special bag, especially one your daughter uses, is one special gift!
You could have just googled Goyard tote to see what it looks like.
What a nice gift @sabaray !
@Sabaray, your daughter is a lucky person and you sound like a kind, generous mom.
@sabaray, I think it’s wonderful you bought your daughter that. I remember all the things my mom bought me, many surprises! She knew my taste and that was one of our love languages.
@leftrightleft I did google Goyard…but I figured the good folks here would have a better idea of how the Amazon pic measured up to the real thing.
Plus…I have to say…it did make me laugh that this came up (the fake) in a google search…on Amazon.
@sabaray - The Goyard bag was a lovely gift for your D and I’m sure she will always treasure it.
My youngest D bought herself a beautiful Chloe purse when she got her first real job after graduating college two years ago.
@conmama, if I’m remembering correctly the bag bonanza is today! I am waiting for a report!
Guess I’m just very naive, but I was surprised to follow that link and find clearly fake Goyard bags openly displayed on Amazon. Why would it be remotely OK for a US company to display and openly sell counterfeit goods?
It isn’t. It is completely illegal. It is theft of trade design and trademark as well as unfair trade practices.
We’ve been very careful with our manufacturing about not offshoring key parts of production since we’ve known too many people who had their subcontractors rip off their IP and undercut them by offering their own product based on stolen software and designs, so it’s an issue I’m aware of. But my product isn’t a consumer good and it’s a small enough marketplace that I’d need to monitor and pursue claims myself, not like a world renowned luxury brand.
But Amazon is huge, should know better and has the resources to eliminate openly counterfeit products like the fake Goyard bags. Why isn’t that happening? Why no enforcement from our government, either? I could see that it’s pretty tough to catch every small business selling fakes out of a roadside stand, but multiple, open fakes listed on Amazon? Really?
I stopped buying high end dermatologist recommended sunscreens on Amazon (Coola and SkinMedics in particular) because every so often I’d receive one that was just… off. The packing was a slightly different color, the product felt a different consistency. And I realized that as much time as I spend in the sun, it was a health issue if my sunscreen didn’t contain what I thought it did. But when I tell people this, they act like I’m nuts and need to wear a tinfoil hat. But if Amazon is so unconcerned about issues with displaying and selling clearly fake luxury goods, why would we think they’d care about selling fake cosmetics/skin care?
Thanks @cmfl11 . I just couldn’t believe the prices on that site, but you are correct that the main KS site indicates that the surprise site is a legit outlet (it is listed under the brand protection section of the website). Sorry for being skeptical. TI will definitely keep looking for bargains there.

Amazon is obviously too big to police every seller, and the trademark policing is in the hands of the owner. I am not going to get into the weeds of the legal stuff here, but some companies do have active monitoring of Amazon for such fakery and they have lawyers who send letters to Amazon… Amazon bans such sellers, but they resurface as new ones…
This is what Amazon says about takedown procedure:
@sabaray, I hope your feelings aren’t in regard to the questions I posted. I truly just wanted to understand why people did/did not feel strongly about legit vs. maybe not legit bags, brand names - what really was the priority in choosing a bag.
I really mean that. Your gift to your D - even when/if she could afford it on her own - is such a warm personal gesture. The best given with the best of intentions to gift her something wonderful.
Thanks for providing me some feedback all. It provided some insight. This happens on CC - while some think that CC is for those with overflowing wallets for college, homes, and life in general, in actuality I believe we run the gamut of income levels.
And this statement is something I could hang on a wall.
“Fashion should be fun. People should get whatever makes them happy, for whatever reason.”
@abasket, I think your questions are interesting. I personally think they deserve their own thread.
Thank you to @cmfl11 for posting about the Kate Spade surprise sale! I have been searching for the perfect crossbody for probably well over a year now and I found one I really love that was heavily discounted on that Kate Spade surprise sale website (Reg. price $229/sale price $79). I just received it today and it is perfect for me! I also purchased a wallet to match (I was in dire need of a new wallet and I love my new one!) The color is perfect–just what I wanted.
@abasket , I took your questions as genuine. A true wanting to understand. Sometimes people post questions, but they are meant to be a disguised insult.
@PurplePlum You’re welcome! I’m glad you found some things you really like!
