Seattle picked up Texas DE Jackson Jeffcoat as an undrafted free agent

I watched some of it but I always ask myself why.

And then I read this article today:

<a href=“As incidents mount for Jameis Winston, so does concern”>http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2014/05/11/jameis-winston-florida-state-crab-legs-nfl-alleged-sexual-assault/8969103/

and really ask myself why.

I read the USA Today story and all I can say is ‘ugh.’ Another self-absorbed player, one with a clueless parent at that, is revealed. So now colleges ENCOURAGE players to have an on-campus entourage of “handlers?” If that’s the case then that individual has no business being on a college campus in the first place.

Yep - but the NFL makes them stay in 2 years. I’m not convinces that Jameis Winston is representative but he sure isn’t the poster child that the NCAA or the NFL should be promoting.

AJ went to Cincinnati - I always knew he wanted to be a Tiger!

It’s funny the draft commentators said he went low because of personality issues . . . boastful, not a team player, complained about other people etc.

<a href=“Don Jones of Miami Dolphins apologizes, is fined for tweet reacting to Rams' selection of Michael Sam - ESPN”>http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10919412/don-jones-miami-dolphins-apologizes-fined-tweet-reacting-rams-selection-michael-sam

Part of me wants to cheer that Jones is suffering consequences for his stupidity, but I still believe that he should have the right to express his opinion without censorship. The NFL has gone to far on controlling player social media expressions.

He is representing the team that he is contracted with . . . a team that’s just been through the wringer over harassment issues. The Dolphins needed to set a tone. Just as bad or worse was Pouncey’s tweet about all the stuff that the new O lineman will be buying for him. That was just a boneheaded maneuver. We go on about kids and social media but some of these adults need to get a grip and stop thinking that it’s a good idea to broadcast every stinking idea that crosses their mind.

OK @threeofthree . . . if took me that long to get your joke . . . I am so slow. I guess SEC isn’t top of mind for me wither out her in Pac-12 country, but still . . . :))

Razorsharp, I sympathize with players who feel that can’t express themselves freely. The problem the owners and coaches have is they need to maintain good order and discipline. Everyone knows or suspects existing players may be gay, and surely in the future there will be more gay players being signed. The coaches and owners need to establish an environment where players only worry about the next game, not the other team mates. They have a lot of money on this, so distractions like that don’t help their investments perform well.

In fact, now that I think about it there is some poetic justice in AJ having to sport those corny, tiger-striped uniforms. Maybe that’s why he was so petulant over not going higher. :((
